So does this mean we’ll see this on regular Comedy Central or do we need a special HD channel for it? I hate to assume anything, but since the article says “Comedy Central”, maybe it’s the regular network. I’m getting my new TV mid-January and would love to see Jon and Stephen’s antics in HD!

Probably the only change if you don’t get Comedy Central in HD is that the show will be letterboxed from now on.

This is most awesome news, ever since Dish picked up CC in HD I’ve been waiting for TCR and TDS to broadcast in full on high definition. Hooray!

Thanks for the reply! We have Comcast but no HD; of course, I’d be the only one in the house with an HDTV ^_^;; Still, I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

We have Comcast here in California. All the HD stations are different stations. Anything in the 900s is HD, but I only know about where I live.

I assume this won’t change the shows on-line, which is the only place I can see them…? Not that I’m complaining! Free is free; I’m thrilled to be able to see them at all. :)

Oh. Wow, I actually hadn’t thought of that in a bad way until you said that. I meant that I suppose they wouldn’t change to a better quality despite the shows now being shot in HD. I wasn’t even thinking of the possibility of them going away or anything. That’s a terrifying thought.

Same here. I’m glad I don’t have to illegally download them, it would be a shame to feel guilty while watching Stephen. :)

Think this’ll also be when we see the fabled/rumored new set/studio for Stephen?

    • jentaps says:

I think so, Thomas. I’m pretty sure they’ve talked about it somewhere.

Stephen did say “goodbye set” during his sign-off last night. I’ll miss it as I love the brilliant idea of a desk in the shape of a C and everything pointing to him, but I’m sure I’ll eventually warm up to the new one:)

We recently got a letter from Time Warner Cable announcing all the new HD channels they’ve added. Sadly, no Comedy Central. *sigh* Jerks.

Yeah. And TWC is really the only available cable around here. I am.. really not pleased by this. :(

Cool! I also can’t wait to see what the new set will look like! =)

  8. Balogna! says:

Arrgh! This is where the screen is cropped, isn’t it! Every face looks bigger and either sides of the picture are not seen – at least on non-hd televisions. hmf.

Ah well. New set, hi-intensity make-up work. *shrugs* Your funeral, progress!

    • ColbertGirl27 says:

Well, isn’t it sort of like seeing a letterboxed movie on TV which is better than it being fitted to your TV screen? I think someone said it will be this way for non-HDTV’s.

      • Bologna! says:

It’s like seeing a letterboxed movie on a screen that is without the ability to display a letterboxed movie.

I can tell when a program is HD, like some of the broadcast news. The faces are larger than usual, you know? Because of the cropped letterbox image.

Bah, I really hope this is not going to be the case with TDS/TCR. I don’t want to lose out on any of those graphics.

  9. Roseha says:

I emailed Time Warner in New York City last week asking them specifically about HD for Comedy Central and mentioning how much we fans of Stephen wanted to see his show in HD. However I’ve heard nothing back. Right now they’re obsessed with some fight similar to last year’s with Viacom – thankfully apparently with other networks – and TWC doesn’t want to pay a fee hike. So maybe that’s why they didn’t answer me. However, my HD channels start at 701, and there’s an empty spot between 744 and 746 where the HD Comedy Central ought to fit in (the regular channel is 45). So I hope it will come. I hate it when things are going on on TCR and I feel like I’m missing some of it with no widescreen. And everything else is in HD! Sigh.

Wow, I must have lucked out! Cox Cable locally has an HD Comedy Central channel in the 700s …

Verizon FiOs has an HD channel set aside for Comedy Central- in my area {Western PA}. So excited to see the new set! I wonder what they will do with all the wonderful things/items Stephen has ceremoniously placed on his shelves? Is there a shelf inventory anywhere?!

I was wondering this as well! I was excited for the new set and then when he said goodbye to it the other night, I thought of all those lovely trinkets! Well…we’ll just have to see what they do.
