Holy cow, this is AWESOME! According to the Associated Press, a Sports Illustrated cover featuring Stephen Colbert will be gracing an edition of the sports magazine that is devoted to sports media. As an added note of coolness, the Colbert Nation will be gracing the cover as well.

Just saw this on tonight’s episode of TCR – that is so unbelievably awesome I can’t quite comprehend it. By the by, as a member of Colbert Nation, does this mean that technically I can tell people I made the cover of Sports Illustrated along with Stephen? I think yes.
According to that AP article, the issue hits newsstands on Wednesday. I cannot wait to buy it. Seriously. Is it Wednesday yet? :D

Back to the skates. Why do they unattach? On screen it doesn’t look like they do at all, especially at the start off. Or is it only certain models.

They’re clap skates, a style of speed skate that really hit the scene in the early to mid-90s. The design keeps the blade of the skate in contact with the ice for longer than do traditional skates and does so without forcing the skater’s legs/ankles into more unnatural positions. That translates into faster times for the skaters with (relatively) less effort. I remember clap skates were becoming mainstream among long track skaters toward the end of and immediately following Dan Jansen’s career, and I was disappointed on his behalf that his records wouldn’t stand for as long as they otherwise would have, as a result.

Hmm, I take it that not all wear clap skates. At the start, they dig the toe into the ice, and that wouldn’t work with these skates. Would it?

okay, that’s awesome! I remember reading some article when the speedskating story first broke and the writer said something along the lines of ‘I wonder if he’ll be brave enough to put on spandex’. Whoever said that obviously doesn’t know Stephen very well.

LOL I JUST HAD THE MOST RIDICULOUS MORNING! I went to the gym and watched last nights episode while i was on the treadmill, and must’ve missed the part where Stephen said it was coming out NEXT week… so i thought it was already out. So i went to 5 different stores to try and find it, and the only Sports Illustrated I could find was one with a big black football player on it. So i kinda then assumed he was kidding and got rather upset, for Stephen lied to me. But turns out he did not, and i’m just an impatient idiot. LOL. I hate it when I can’t get on here regularly to get Colbert news as often as possible. Hah, perhaps my morning of sadness could’ve been avoided :(

Holy Cow! This is completely awesome! I will have to add it to my collection of Colbert magazine covers. I have three framed in my at home office, and three on a table nearby. This one totally deserves framing. The spandex! The watch! The tie! Oh, how I adore Stephen. And so does the media, evidently. :-)
