The New York Times has come out with an excellent review of the Second City show:
Second City Looks Back in Laughter

Published: December 15, 2009Second City’s 50th anniversary occurs at a moment when the company’s influence and prestige may be at a peak, even as television itself seems desperate to find new forms and approaches. Alumni of the troupe represent three of the most highly praised shows on the air right now: Steve Carell in “The Office,” Mr. Colbert on “The Colbert Report” and Ms. Fey on “30 Rock.”
Ms. Fey was not part of the weekend’s events, though several other “30 Rock” actors and writers who also trained at Second City were, including Scott Adsit and Jack McBrayer. But an alumni reunion show on Saturday night included Mr. Colbert and Mr. Carell, who revived a surreal sketch in which they return to Mr. Colbert’s Southern hometown only to find themselves transformed into elderly black women named Shirley and Sarah.
But the coolest part of the article is the fact that embedded about midway through, is two minutes or so of the infamous “Maya Angelou” sketch that was performed on Saturday night. So go watch, and come back and review! While it is not the complete sketch, this gives me hope that it will eventually end up available in its entirety.

Oh, what an excellent little snippet! When Stephen says “Oh, I forgot to tell you — when I’m home, I’m an old black woman” I died laughing.
You know, I read this article about an hour ago and never even noticed the embedded video. (What the hell, me?) But I did catch this:

Oh I have GOT to see that whole sketch. That was fantastic! And yeah, it’s so great seeing those two on stage together. I’m still waiting for Steve to go on the Report and revive Even Stephven.

Even from such a little bit, that looks like an amazing sketch. Steve Carell’s impassioned defense of ‘Shirley’ was wonderful.
I sure hope some more film of the show surfaces somewhere.

“Oh! I forgot to tell you. When I’m home, I’m an old black woman.” – it’s brilliant how Stephen says that sentence as if it’s completely plausible, I love it.
That clip is excellent, thank you! When they say the full video will soon be posted at secondcity.com, I sure hope they mean tomorrow.
