Allison Silverman accepts her Muse Award from Stephen Colbert

Very cool! The Wall Street Journal devotes a few words to yesterday’s Muse Awards ceremony honoring women in film and television:

Stephen Colbert Crashes 29th Annual Muse Awards Honoring America Ferrera, Julianna Margulies

This afternoon’s 29th Annual Muse Awards — honoring actresses America Ferrera and Julianna Margulies, late night comedy writer/producer Allison Silverman and Lifetime President and CEO Andrea Wong — may have been all about celebrating New York women in film and television, but there was one man the roughly 900 attendees were pleasantly surprised to see: Stephen Colbert.

The host of “The Colbert Report” showed up to present a Muse Award to his friend Silverman, who was the Executive Producer of his show before leaving 73 days ago — “but who’s counting?’ he joked. In a touching tribute, he commended her for her ability to keep her humanity when the male-dominated comedy writing world is all about one-upping each other. And as evidence of their symbiotic comedic minds, both told the exact same joke, pointing out that Silverman was qualified for the New York Women in Film & Television award because she was a woman and she lived in New York.

Congratulations, Allison! It’s so sweet that Stephen was there to honor her. There are a few more photos from the event here; the one with the two of them hugging is simply heartwarming.

I particularly loved this sentence: “When Silverman stepped up to the microphone, she was visibly moved by the Colbert Surprise, and immediately launched into an almost-perfect duplication of the jokes Colbert had just delivered, which proved their claims of comedic mind reading and a constant competition on who can be the most outrageous… which she followed with ‘Boobies, penis, vagina, diarrhea.’”
