Episode 5155 (12/7/2009)

Colbert Report Episode guideEPISODE NUMBER: 5155 (December 7, 2009)
GUESTS: Bill T. Jones
SEGMENTS: Who’s Attacking Me Now?; Tip of the Hat, Wag of the Finger; The Craziest F#?king Thing I’ve Ever Heard
VIDEOS: Monday, December 7, 2009

Air quotes always rock, as do ironic hipster references. The ironic “Journalist” t-shirt made me laugh quite heartily. I also loved the “appetizer in Wisconsin” line – the sad part is, he has no idea how close to true that is.

Is anyone else still wigged out by the tongue parasite? Dude, that thing was GROSS! I have to admit though, the little mouth on Stephen’s tongue was pretty weird, too. I sat there looking at my screencap for today’s post, going “This is seriously bizarre.” I do so love the Craziest F#?king Thing segments, though. They are always such a treat.

Stephen’s taste in musical guests is amazingly eclectic. I enjoyed the number tonight, with the dancing and the music.

What did you all love about the show today?

Stephen Colbert - December 7, 2009

  • I can dish it out, and I can take it. But why do people have to be so mean?
  • Those jobs? Leprechaun polisher and Yeti podiatrist.
  • You caught me! I’m a pervert with a pronunciation kink.
  • Fox, what are you doing? You are fair and balanced. To be fair, you have to balance every fact with corresponding bulls#!t.
  • For example, Sarah “Palin’s” new “book” has been released to “excellent” reviews and many people are “reading” it.
  • It makes me Microhard.
  • It’s easy, you just take one patty and copy and paste it seven times.
  • America would be the perfect place for the Windows 7 Whopper. This is an appetizer in many parts of Wisconsin.
  • We just need to find a fast food restaurant that would be big … for Mac … Carl’s Jr.
  • Warning: what I am about to show you may make your lunch come up, which is bad news because your tongue may eat it.
  • At first, I thought great, a tongue that eats before I do. What a simple way to diet. Then I realized half of what I ate would be tongue poop.
  • Tongueducken – science, make it happen.
  • That is the strongest dropping of the funk bomb I have ever heard.
  • Say that one more time, I didn’t hear that with my hips.
  • Let’s put some asses in the seats – are there zombies in this musical? Is this the first broadway zombie musical? Are there at least some sexy teenage vampires.

Musical number was a funk bomb indeed!

Comedy Central usually gets TCR episodes up just around my lunch time so I was just digging into my pasta arabiata when Stephen gave his warning. Thank God I listened to him and put my fork down… that was seriously distrubing!

Oh – and he’s brought up poop again! I’m starting to think Allison kept the boys in line – the scatalogical references seem to have gone up since her departure.

The “Who’s Attacking Me Now” was great. I thought it was hilarious how DeSeve criticised Stephen for mispronouncing his name, while at the same time *he* mispronounced *Stephen’s* name worse than I’ve ever heard it! It couldn’t have been more perfect if the show’s writers had written it themselves!

And I read the story about the tongue parasite a few weeks ago, including the pictures, so I wasn’t caught off guard by it at all. I found the picture of Stephen’s tongue more disturbing!! Though it was also hilarious.

Everytime Stephen’s voice wavers and it sounds like he is going to cry, I immediately think he is going to say “Eyes to the back of the room! There’s something I want you to see back there!”

I wish they had used a different camera angle when Stephen ran over for the interview. His leap and stretching were very cute!

I don’t think there’s anything that makes me laugh as much as Stephen’s fake crying. Incidentally, I tend to have callbacks to Noblet’s “Eyes to the back of the room!” also.

    • Ann G. says:

I thought the same thing when Stephen did his leap over to the interview area! Not the best camera angle to appreciate that move.

Stephen’s fake crying will never not be funny.

This is one of the few times I really, really regretted eating breakfast while watching the show. That fish-tongue-parasite thing was disgusting.

LOL!! I loooove when Stephen fake cries. Totally reminds me of “eyes to the back!”

HAHAH AWE CHUCK! His fake crying is perhaps the best i’ve ever seen. He just goes in and out of it so fast, amazing.

  5. Michele says:

My husband and I both laughed pretty hard at the ironic “Journalist” t-shirt on Hannity and enjoyed the whole Tip/Wag segment. The Craziest F#?king Thing I’ve Ever Heard is one of my favorite segments and last night’s was truly bizarre. And funny. :-) Great musical number too!

i liked that musical number. thanks CR for introducing me to funk!

  7. PriyaNoblet says:

Oh dear! What a great episode. Thank god I had finished eating by the time Jimmy and Stephen decided to haunt my dreams forever. haha. BTW, I didn’t have any nightmares about that parasite last night, thank god. haha.

  8. Roseha says:

I was really torn on voting because I *loved* Bill T. Jones and the cast of Fela – has Stephen ever had a Broadway show cast on his show before? I wasn’t sure they could fit on the stage! But in the end I had to vote for “Craziest F-ing Thing I’ve Ever Heard” because it never fails to make me laugh, and I especially love it when Stephen pulls the stories from the world of nature (remember the transparent-headed fish?). I just loved it, even if it was gross.

I loved Stephen’s leaping move over to Mr. Jones, even if it wasn’t filmed at a great angle. I am going to try to see if I can screencap it from Hulu.

  9. ColbertGirl27 says:

Tie between the craziest thing and Fela, but voted for Fela simply because it was something completely different and I was impressed with the lead guy who went from singing to dancing to playing sax! Really loved it when they brought in the brass. Also, having a Broadway company gave me an idea….

If Stephen can’t take time off to perform in a Broadway musical, maybe the musical can come to him! The Music Man as performed by Stephen Colbert for the next weeks on TCR! Hey, I’m sure his character could find an excuse to play a pompous idiot;)Evie could play the leading lady and his kids could be the students learning to play music. Oh, to see Stephen in a Broadway musical!

So many fantastic segments to choose from! Last night was such a solid episode. I absolutely loved seeing the cast of “Fela!” perform their musical number, and what I love even more is the fact that Stephen had them on the show. It’s times like this I wish I lived in New York City – I would be hitting up Broadway shows like there’s no tomorrow.
But just because it’s so absurdly wonderful, I gotta go with The Craziest F#?king Thing I’ve Ever Heard as my favorite segment last night. Seeing that picture of the parasite in the fish’s mouth sincerely disturbed me. And DB, that screencap is just ridiculous. Ridiculous and hilarious! :)
