Oh, I'm so glad you found this. I had forgotten about the ticker-tape parade.

I didn't really say anything about the rest of the event in my initial report as I was keeping it Stephen-centric, but let me see if I can fill in some of the blanks from the video. Elvis Costello wasn't on the initial bill, so he was a complete (and happy) surprise. He did 2 songs then Springsteen came out and did 3 songs, telling jokes before each. The video didn't show the beginning of the "mount and dew" joke which had something to do with Pepsi putting Viagara into their drinks. It was pretty funny, watching Springsteen attempt to do standup. The auction began with a bid of $5,000 for the guitar only, and as it went on Bruce added the concert tickets then the backstage passes. The $20,000 bid was actually from Elvis, who ran out from backstage to place it. It was nice to see the woman who won the auction, as I was in the last row of the balcony and couldn't really see anyone in the orchestra.

It was quite an event. Amazing how much money was raised.

Oh, I'm glad you found this! I had totally forgotten about Stephen's "ticker-tape parade" when I wrote about the event.

I also never really said anything about the other performers at the event. Elvis Costello wasn't on the original bill so when he came out it was a huge (and happy) surprise. He did 2 songs then Springsteen did 3, plus jokes before each song. The video cut out the first part of the "Mount and Dew" joke, which was something about Pepsi putting Viagra in their drinks. Not something I ever expected to see, Bruce telling jokes. The auction began at $5,000 and was just the guitar. Bruce kept upping the ante, adding the concert tickets and backstage passes as it went on. Elvis came out from backstage to put in the bid for $20,000. I was in the last row of the balcony so it was nice to finally see who actually won it!
