Spoiler Alert – Olympic Edition, Part II

Okay, another cut. But this simply must be shared. Also, I would like to make a note that we are a respectable, family-friendly blog, and would never link to this.

Thanks to ESPN.com for publishing the article, and Life.com for the pictures.

Comedian Stephen Colbert goes bobsledding

Stephen Colbert bobsleds at Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Comedian Stephen Colbert took the “Night Train” and it nearly left him speechless.

Colbert donned a reddish-orange racing suit Sunday and went on a ride with U.S. bobsled driver Steven Holcomb. He was in the black sled that Holcomb had just driven to the four-man World Cup gold medal at Mount Van Hoevenberg.

With the crowd at the finish line chanting his name, Colbert hopped into the third slot normally manned by Steve Mesler and tucked in tight between Justin Olsen and brakeman Curtis Tomasevicz. About a minute later, Colbert emerged unscathed but breathing hard.

“Having won today’s competition, you are today the fastest in the world at this,” Colbert said to Holcomb and his team. “I had to pick the fastest team. Thank you. It felt like I was being hit in the head with ice hammers. It was like losing the worst snowball fight of your life.”

Colbert said he looked up for only the first four turns on the way down the 20-turn layout, then buried his head in Olsen’s back for the quick ride to the bottom.

“Oh, my gosh! That was the ride of my life,” said Colbert, who is urging his viewers to support the U.S. Olympic speedskating team. “I’ve ridden with the Thunderbirds. They have nothing on you.”

“Evidently, I am very good at having weight and allowing gravity to drive me downhill. That’s all I contributed to the team. Did you hear me screaming like a little girl? I had my shoulders up around my ear canal and my head was slamming against the side of this thing. It felt like I was the Liberty Bell.”

they’ve labeled it as Stephen bobsledding, but that’s the skeleton he’s doing there. might as well give the correct recognition to all the winter sports! :)

Stephen’s so lucky to try things like that, though I’d probably freak out. then again, if they made me put on any outfits like that, I wouldn’t be first in line for the activity either!

He really does live by “yes, and…” I would like to think I do too but I am 90% sure I would chicken out at the last minute!

DB-the above link that this family-friendly blog would never link to… gives vision to last weeks tip/wag segment re: balls! ;)

Oh. My. Gawd. That picture you didn’t link to is the greatest thing I’ve never clicked on and made me squeal upon not seeing it.

I would have thought the skeleton would be scarier given the way you’re positioned and the fact that it’s a solo run. Guess not! I cannot wait to see this.

Especially if you were British aristocracy (Sir Zwangor Whitcomb) or alternately, a mad scientist (Dr. Zwangor Whitcomb).

I can’t wait to see this segment, it’s going to be incredible! I imagine that bobsled run would’ve been a bit scary. They do go really fast.

Yeah, that link that DB didn’t post made me laugh hysterically. But red spandex? Really? I suppose if you want to get everyone’s attention, that would be the way to do it!

  15. Holly says:

I love this because I have a friend who is a former national team bobsledder and trained at Mt. Van Hoevenburg. I will have to tell him Mr. Colbert took the ride, screamed like a little girl, and said it was scarier than the Thunderbirds. He’ll smile and nod. :)

  16. Roseha says:

I thought of that too (the red spandex) Ann. But “Stephen” often seems to favor “conservative red” as in red states.

I can’t wait for these clips either! Great way to build up to Vancouver. And I’m glad everyone was safe.

There’s another picture here: Stephen in red spandex! He’s sitting down in the pic, which is probably just as well.

The very “normal” part of my brain will second luvtcr’s comment — the “yes, and…” philosophy is in full effect, and I’m already dying to see this on the show.

The very dirty part of my brain would love to comment on the discretely linked-to photo at the very beginning of this post, but I shant. But you all know what I’m thinking…cuz you’re probably thinking it too.

    More olympic news! Massive!
I can’t wait to see this on the show.
I saw Stephen’s name on his helmet in the discretely posted pic.
Also, the thunderbirds having nothing on them?? Whoa.
