Here’s the scoop, from the Baltimore Sun:
Stephen Colbert slides into town
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. // He may be sponsoring the U.S. Speedskating team, but Stephen Colbert wants to experience the rush of a bobsled run with the reigning world champion and the terror of a solo ride on a skeleton sled.
And so he shall Sunday after World Cup competition here.
Colbert’s staff is in town and the Comedy Central talk show host is expected to fly in Sunday for a whirlwind shot at two of the Olympics’ three sliding sports.
At 45, Colbert is two years older than U.S. bobsled Coach Brian Shimer, a five-time Olympian and 2002 Olympic bronze medalist.
To ease the aging comedian’s downhill plunges, the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation has arranged for world champion Steve Holcomb to pilot his flat-black sled “Night Train,” down the mile-long ice chute, with Colbert in the “Three Hole,” one spot in front of the brakeman.
And when it comes to skeleton, Colbert will begin his ride at Start Five in an area known as “The Labyrinth,” three-quarters of the way down the track.
In his two runs, Colbert will, no doubt, find his own moment of truthiness.
Does this mean … Stephen Colbert in Spandex? This should be amazingly fun!

A Fallback Position possibly.
I love when Stephen does this stuff. I would have hoped he would have laced up his skates, but he probably doesn’t want Steve to call him up and laugh. (Because Steve can skate as evidenced by an episode of The Office and an old sketch from The Dana Carvey Show if I remember correctly. Oh, and the fact Steve used to play hockey. Anyway…)
This will be great and I can’t wait to see it on my television screen the week after Thanksgiving. However, during Thanksgiving I shall listen to him sing over and over again. Perhaps even stick in the Christmas special. Ahh…nothing like knowing Jon wants to share his “traditions” with Stephen.

Absolutely awesome – and I would love to have the chance to do those runs! I’m still being scolded by friends for picking up a plastic sheet and going much faster than is safe down icy slopes given half a chance.
And this is one of my favorite TDS clips – just check out the glorious hair… and the glorious left eyebrow lol.

Ha ha! Yeah, I would LOVE to do those runs too. I was the kid who used to create her own sled runs out in the woods using steep hills with some twists and turns. This is going to be great! :-)

I am so excited for this!! Can’t wait for him to add “Bobsledder” to his long list of credentials haha!
I laughed out loud when I noticed the author of that article called Stephen an “aging comedian” – that can’t be flattering…
And I will never get sick of that TDS clip of Stephen – I love that spinning dance move he always manages to sneak in. :)

The man definitely has a death wish. I can’t wait to see this, though. I wonder when it will air. After this current break or closer to the Olympics? I hope he has a great time and stays safe.

What a great clip! I love it too when Stephen goes into that dance. Thanks DB.
That sounds like a great segment to look forward to with the bobsledding. (Hope they have helmets! and yes be safe.)
I hope Stephen and crew will get to Vancouver. I wonder if Comedy Central/Viacom will have to cut a deal with NBC so he can go?

Anyone else thinking he may save these segments to be shown while “on location?” Similar to the basic training and Thundercats, er Thunderbirds clips during his trip to Iraq… I would love to see Colbert at the Olympics, in spandex…that is my Olympic Dream!

Stephen’s going to bobsledding?! I can’t wait to see that (and I just had a ‘Cool Runnings’ flashback).
That clip is one of my favorites, I loved how he breaks out in one of the two Cher songs I actually know and in that little spin move he has at the end. It never fails to make me smile.

This is gonna be great!! I still lmao from the time when Ellen Degeneres sent Sherri Shepperd to try out the bobsledding!!
BodyStrong body casts anyone? Stephen should really considered we could really raise a lot of money for charity and start a new fashion trend!!

This is off-topic but I don’t see a brunch post this wkd, so…has anyone made an mp3 out of “Jingle Man” song from the DVD extras of the Christmas special? I really really want to listen to that like every single day before Christmas. :)
And, whoohoo, I thought of Cool Runnings immediately too. :) Be safe, Stephen

Oh, I can’t wait for this. He’s getting quite “sporty” lately what with the skateboarding and now this.
Thanks for putting up this Klassic Klip. I love the end! Spinning and singing – so funny.
