Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell confirmed for Second City Anniversary
ByHere’s some awesome news for all you comedy fans in Chicago: the new list of confirmed attendees for the 50th Anniversary festivities now includes fan favorites Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell!
From the Chicago Tribune:
Second City confirms Colbert, Carell, Belushi, Wendt, Dratch, Garlin, Vardalos, many others
Second City is later today releasing the line-up for its big 50th-anniversary mainstage show at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. Entitled “The Second City Alumnae: For One Night Only,” the show will be staged in both of Second City’s theaters. Here’s the latest line-up of names. It’s quite a list:
Scott Adsit, Jim Belushi, Danny Breen, Frank Caeti, Larry Joe Campbell, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Dan Castellaneta, Kevin Dorff, Robin Duke, Brian Gallivan, Martin Garcia, Jeff Garlin, Ian Gomez, Peter Grosz, Mike Hagerty, Isabella Hoffman, Bruce Jarchow, Fred Kaz, Tim Kazurinsky, Keegan Michael Key, Richard Kind, Robert Klein, David Koechner, Mina Kolb, Bob Martin, Jack McBrayer, Susan Messing, Colin Mochrie, Maribeth Monroe, Jane Morris, Bob Odenkirk, David Pasquesi, Harold Ramis, David Rasche, Horatio Sanz, Jim Staahl, Betty Thomas, Nia Vardalos, George Wendt, Fred Willard.
This is only a partial list of performers for what’s certainly going to be one of the toughest tickets of the year in Chicago. Tickets, which are $125, go on sale Thursday.
There is only one show open to the public–the late-night slot is going to be a private, alumnae-performing-for-alumnae event. But there are numerous panels and other events open to the public.
. . .
Colbert, a recent addition to the weekend, will now appear at the recently announced panel dedicated to his show. (Dec. 12 at 10 a.m).
. . .
It’s great to see so many familiar names in there! Steve Carell, Peter Grosz, David Pasquesi … if you’re in Chicago on that day, this definitely sounds like the place to be.
Keep your eyes on the Second City site for more information.
EDITED TO ADD: Here’s a little more information on the panel discussion. Fellow Colbert Report writers and Second City alumni Peter Gwinn and Tom Purcell will also be participating!

Argh! If I still had a job and the money to spend I would totally go up to Chicago for that.
If anyone does go have fun and bring back pictures and stories.
If you also somehow manage to smuggle Steve or Stephen back that’ll be great as well.

The tickets for the panels went on sale starting at 10:00 central last time, but I don’t know if it will be the same for the performance.

Please excuse the following fangirl squee :)
Colbert’s going to be at the Second City TCR panel ?!? I managed to get tickets even before I knew he was coming. I can’t believe I’m finally going to see him in person!
Hopefully I can procure a ticket to the performance too (no promises on the smuggling of the Stepvens though).

Wait wait WAIT. The tickets for the TCR panel are only 25 bucks? So it’s the alumni performance that is $125? I might have to rethink this. I think I might actually go! :D

By the way, does anyone of you remembers the Tina Fey interview at the Daily show, where she said one of them (Stephen & Steve) was a ladies men at Second City and she wouldn’t say who and Jon guessed Stephen.
I have to think about this now ;-)

Mmm, you really think so? I would say it’s Stephen, I cannot imagine that he ever was shy in his life. And he’s so flirty and charming.
And I read an article about Steve Carell where he mentioned how he met his wife and how incredible shy he was and didn’t have the guts to ask her out.

Well, steve told in an interview in 2005 that he dated three women at one time (second city), bad boy. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_zaFQKgQYW2k/SsyB7BbcG5I/AAAAAAAAGus/2-CB9X1ogVU/s1600-h/Article_0002.jpg And also the director of bewitched once told in an interview that steve used to be a ladiesman. So I’m guessing steve was the ladiesman. He looks very handsome in that pick also *sigh*

Steve looks hot in that picture. I never really saw him as hot before.
Is it just me or does anyone else see a resemblance to Robert Downey jr when you look at pictures of younger Stephen?

OMIGOD!!! I am going for the whole weekend she-bang with my friend. I am going to die from excitement! I was so disappointed when I thought that Stephen might not be there. My friend is a huge Carrell/office fan.
I am seriously going crazy!!! I promise to give full report! I will finally be cool for a few fleeting moments.
Thank you Stephen for going!!!

Hee, hee. So, judging by the photos, Stephen was part of Second City when he was about 16? And Steve was 18? They both look like they should be giving each other wedgies and stuffing each other in their lockers before homeroom.

ME TOO. I should have bought tickets last night and dealt with the question of whether or not I would actually be able to go today :(
There’s still a possiblity that I might still go and just go to another panel though…it’s an all day thing, so there’s a very good chance I’d be able to see him anyway, right? lol

I was actually thinking the same thing! I was debating which panel would be the most likely that I would get a chance to hang around and catch a glimpse of Stephen! LOL.

Well, the way I see it, it’s an entire weekend full of panels and activities and such, plus the alumni show is later that Saturday night anyway, so why wouldn’t he be there? It’d be especially easy for you, living in Chicago and all that. What have we got to lose? lolol :)
I love how even the idea of seeing Stephen for one day makes people uproot their lives…it’s awesome ha ;)
November 5th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Was anyone able to get tickets to the alumni performance? I tried but they were sold out before I could even get through.
If you’re going, have a great time!

I couldn’t. I was on the website the second they went on sale, and went to select tickets, and right away was getting the “your request could not be completed, please select another performance” error message. Which is what happens when it’s sold out. That was within two minutes. I kept trying, and then a couple of minutes later the website crashed for half an hour, and it was impossible to get through on the phone. By the time everything came back online it was sold out. I’m guessing that the lucky folks who got tickets probably had to be lining up at the box office to do it – unfortunately I’m in New York, so that wasn’t an option. Oh well. I’m really disappointed, but at least I was able to get tickets to a few panels, including the TCR one. It’ll still be a great weekend.

I had the same problem and I wasn’t able to wait at the box office today – in theory I do have to work :)
Perhaps I’ll see you at the TCR panel though. I am looking forward to that.

Steve Carell looked like trouble, even then.
But Stephen Colbert. So innocent looking. So pure. I would look at that young boy in my theatre group and say “Yeeeessssssss *evilhandwring* I can mold this one into a vision of my very self…yessssss”
Never realising that under that placid, Stepford wife expression, was one of the most deranged human beings to ever walk the face of the earth.
“alumnae-performing-for-alumnae event”
That, will be a vicious VICIOUS performance.
