Welcome to our (mostly) weekly discussion group to talk about Stephen, our lives, our friendships with each other, and pretty much anything you’d like to talk about with other readers of No Fact Zone, what we here affectionately call “the Zoners”.
Good afternoon, Zoners! I hope you all remembered to set your clocks back an hour. Even with the extra hour, I still slept until 10a – I guess I was tired. It has been a very long week, that’s for sure. But I’m bound and determined to get a little R&R this weekend.
I know that sometimes this weekly thread turns into a big Kumbaya Group Hug Lovefest, but I just don’t care. It’s very important to let you people know how much that this community means to me. So before I go any further, I would like to stop and say a HUGE Thank You to the Completist team who works so hard to bring you all the posts every week. There’s absolutely no way I could do this by myself, and I am so thankful we’ve found a group of hard-working core members who help keep the site churning. I’d also like to extend a very special thanks to MsInterpreted. Despite the fact that she’s a workaholic lawyer, she still finds time every week to bring us the most cutting edge Colbert news, and this week she made her debut as a master interviewer as well. Kudos, my friend.
For those of you who have twatted, you may be aware that Twitter has started a new List feature. I’ve spent some time in the last couple of days getting all of the Zoners I can find and putting them into a very special list: The Zoner Twitter List. If you are on Twitter, and a Zoner, I’d love to add you to this list so that I have a handy dandy tool to keep up with everyone. Please add your Twitter handle to the comments (or Twitter the #zoner tag) and we’ll get you added!
I have found that I really enjoy getting to know more of you on a more personal level by interacting in an off-topic venue, and I hope you all feel the same. Plus, I occasionally break stories on Twitter before I post them here because I can’t blog at work, but I love getting a good story out there as soon as I can. Also, a quick reminder – don’t forget you can add a WristSTRONG bracelet to your Twitter avatar! Show all of your Twitter followers that you support the cause of wrist awareness!
Here’s my discussion question for the day to get things going:
If you were to describe Stephen Colbert in one word, what would it be?
Doing episode guides at 6a, often with not enough sleep because I’m stupid and stay up too late, can be quite the challenge. The pressure to get the guides done before I have to start getting ready for work (7:30a CST) can be pretty strong. And coming up with new adjectives morning after morning can be quite challenging. If I wrote “OMG I LOVED THAT!!!” every morning, I think everyone would get bored pretty quickly.
So I try to be descriptive and original. Driving into work one morning this week, I realized that I had thought of a new word to describe Stephen that I had never though of before – Effervescent. This week, his joy and happiness was literally bubbling out of him at every opportunity. He was light, and sparkly, and tickled my nose a little. It was awesome.
I was wondering, what words pop into your mind when *you* think of Stephen?
And also, remember this is a thread where you can talk about anything you’d like to talk about. So feel free to chat about anything that comes to mind that you’d like to talk about with the Zoners. We’re a shiny, happy community here, and we love to talk about just about anything!
First of all I’d like to say how much I appreciate you doing those episode guides every day! I look forward to them so much because I have a lot of down time at my job in the morning and it can get pretty boring, so reading those guides really gives my mood a boost. :)
Hmmmm one word to describe Stephen? The word that makes the biggest appearance in my vocabulary whenever I see him is “cute” or in fact “so cute”. It occurs so often when I see him that I have a feeling I mutter it in my sleep after watching TCR. Anyway, I also like the word Transcedent. Your word is fantastic by the way, I really can’t top that one. Effervescent….ahhhhh.
Slightly off topic but one day I was looking in the old thesaurus and really, is there any other word uglier than “Pulchritudinous” that could be a synonym for “Beautiful”? I never knew there was such a word.
Good luck to any of you who are going to that Three Rivers Benefit tonight!!! I hope you have the greatest time ever!!!

I also think, “So Cute” when I see Stephen. Does that make me gay? Really I just wanted to give you my twitter (oops, that sounded kind of gay, too).

The first word I would think of is “perfect”, but I’m sure he would say he isn’t, so…..
I think I will go with “EVOLVED”.

Yeah, I would vote for “perfect” as well, but I guess no one’s perfect…he’s just the closest thing to perfection:)

Brilliant! I like this because Stephen is witty, smart, intelligent, shiny, luminous and exceptional–all words that can be summed up by: Brilliant!
Enjoy the weekend everybody! Can’t wait to hear all about the theater benefit tonight!

Thanks for the accolades, DB. I’ve assisted on other interviews so I did have a little practice, but it was really exhilarating and lovely to get to interview John, who was both hilarious and accommodating, considering his crazy schedule. A quick follow up to that interview, congratulations to John for getting approved for his green card. The news just came through (announced on the most recent Bugle episode); way to go, “Legal Permanent Resident of the USA” John!
One word to describe Stephen Colbert: PUPPY! Like a puppy, he seems full of energy and fun, interested in everything in the world around him, eager to be loved, and terribly, terribly adorable. What a charmer.
(And to respond to your other question, on Twitter, I am … absent. Glad y’all are having fun with it, though.)

YAY John Oliver! I’m so happy for him. Thanks for the info!

You guys do such nice job plugging for these guys (and gals) on the 6 degrees post, so I am sure that he was happy to oblige you with an interview.
I hope more of the 6 degrees mentioned folks make themselves available to NFZ-it is always interesting to hear about them outside of their show.

Well, we do like following the careers of some of our favorite guys and gals but, when all is said and done, they don’t owe us a thing. So we’re really, really grateful for the people who are able and willing to spare a little of their time. And, knowing just a bit of how busy John’s schedule is, I can’t say enough nice things about him and his willingness to answer our questions.
Virtual ice cream sundae (with a cherry on top) for Mr. John Oliver!

Firstly – thank *you*, DB, for putting in the time and effort to write those episode guides every morning. I’m unable to watch the shows until the night after they actually air. So, reading your episode guides the morning after a show has been broadcast really tides me over until I can watch it for myself! =)
Oh my goodness! Effervescent is a perfect word, I love that! I’d say I’d use the words…inspiring, brilliant, witty, shiny (in the sense that when he smiles, he almost emits a shine), kind, generous, adorable, dorky, and lovable.

Can I just say that my mornings start out so good because the first thing I do is check the episode guide from last night. So i thank you for waking up to do them!! Sooo good! <3
One word to describe Stephen: … Glorious! And we all know that he truely is glorious, so it totally works. Need I explain? Didn't think so.
Have fun at the benefit, anyone who is going!

Again, DB, I add rounds to the praise on the epi guides. You tend to summarize exactly what I was thinking about the episode myself! I guess we hard-core fans think alike.
One word for Stephen…’magnanimous’ in spirit. He undertakes so many different things simultaneuously, whether it be the oftentimes weighty issues he tackles on the show, his charitable efforts, his continued outreach to the fans…sigh. I think everyone should be as ambitious. It would be a better world.

my describing word is definitely “lovely.” I’m generally fond of the word, but I was thinking about it today, and I feel like it actually fits. the entire show seems like such a pleasant place (led by Stephen), the comedy suits me perfectly, and everything I’ve seen from interviews with person Stephen Colbert leads me to believe he’s a very moral and caring fellow. put that all together and I call it lovely. :D

One word to describe Stephen-unexpected. When I first started watching the show in June, I never expected to become such a hardcore fan who can’t miss the show. What I love about the show is those unexpected moments when something happens that is so hysterical and that is why, because it was unexpected. i.e.-The show where Stephen gets a colonoscopy in response to Glenn Beck’s creepy eyes. Those moments when you think they’re going down one avenue, but they go in a completely different direction.
I also never expected Stephen to be so well-rounded, he can sing, he can dance, he is into religion and science…who knew?
I also never expected that he had once played a gay character. When I saw the second episode of SWC, I had no idea what was going to happen in that first scene.
Another thing that I didn’t realize is how much sex appeal he has and how many other people have also noticed it. He’s a hottie and he’s not afraid to flaunt it!
He definitely brings a lot of joy to a lot of people.
Oh and DB, I’d also like to echo what everyone else is saying-Thank You for all the work you put into this site. It’s such a fantastic place to come and shmooze!

You’re only giving me ONE WORD to describe him? But there are so many! haha. After thinking about it, I’ll stay simple and sweet by saying that if I could describe him in one word, it would be “good”. As in, “Stephen is a good person.”
:)
And thank YOU DB, and all the other Completists for the wonderful work they do on the site! It’s a joy to be a part of such a great group of people :D
