Before we go, let’s check in with our good friend Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report…
Wow, two Tosses in one week? I can’t remember the last time we were so lucky! Let’s get right to them and we’ll start with Monday’s Toss:
Daily/Colbert – Small Talk: Stephen will give you the scoop on which cable news host’s family is doing great, and he’ll have an exclusive on the weather.

And, lucky lucky us, here’s Thursday’s Toss:
Daily/Colbert – Jon is a Downer: Stephen doesn’t want to talk to Jon because he’s a downer, and two members of The Daily Show family have written new books.

I liked both Tosses this week, but particularly liked the second one. Another variation on an old theme — Stephen’s too busy or distracted to do the Toss. But this time Jon turns it around on him and ignores him right back! Two can play at that game! And then of course the “I love you!” exchange is to die for. Both Tosses were great fun. Which one was your favorite this week?
I second that emotion re: the second Toss. I squee like a giddy girly girl whenever those two express affection for each other. It’s like a planetary alignment or something. The pure gravitational adorability of “I love you” whispered across a Toss is enough to spin me out of orbit.

They were so cute and pouty during the first part of the second Toss when they started ignoring each other. I laughed at the fake writing and the fake paper airplane making. And then I smiled a huge huge smile when they exchanged “I love yous.” I just about lost it. I watched the show on real television and then I watched it again online. Just because.

nerdygirl, thanks for putting the tosses up! I missed the first one on Monday, and when I DVR’d the late shows it broke the toss in the middle! so it’s great to see it all the way through. But yes the second one was the best. “You’re a downer! I’ve got to entertain these people!”
I wonder if we’ll ever hear from anyone how all that started?

Okay, I might have to get more detail from someone who was there. But here is what I know so far.
As the Toss starts, Stephen has discovered there’s no toss in the prompter, he’s telling the stage manager that he’ll have to read from the script. So he’s actually reading the toss from the sheet of paper in front of him. At first. It looks like they went completely off script and improvised most of it.
At the beginning of the pre-toss, the camera cuts to Jon but the top of his head was cropped off, showing from the midface on down. Stephen compensates for this by dropping to his knees and only showing half of HIS head poking out from his desk. Jon mutters about first having audio problems and now this!
In the pre-toss banter, Jon said some stuff that got the TCR audience to aww in a kind of admonishment of him. Exasperated, Stephen points out to Jon he has depressed his audience! He has a show to do, and he has to make them laugh while Jon is finished with his show! He repeats this in the actual toss.
Stephen asks Jon if his week is an ‘in week’ like TCR – so it looks like a work week for both shows.

I almost forgot about that first one! Wow, two Tosses this week! I loved both of them – I loved that they were talking about the audio finally working in the first one and…I don’t think I have to say it…I loved t he “I love you”s in the second one. =D

That second one is the stuff dreams are made of. The bromance is clearly alive and well.

I can’t choose! As much as I enjoyed the 2nd one, I loved Stephen’s big grin at the end of the first one.

I think if we could somehow bottle these tosses, we could cure cancer.

I loved both of the tosses so much – having two of them in one week was definitely a treat. :) I think the 2nd one was my favorite, just for the way Stephen said, “Well, I don’t want to talk to you!”; you could tell that he was starting to break a little bit, it was adorable. And I loved the big laugh he gave at the end. But I wouldn’t throw out that big smile and thumbs up he gave Jon in the 1st toss. That was something special. :D
