Michael Moore says: Stephen Colbert has been ingesting me!
ByOh man, I just read this article on Michael Moore’s new film, Capitalism: A Love Story, and it contained a doozy of a closing revelation. From Eye Weekly:
Capitalism: A Love Story
Directed by Michael Moore. PG. 126 min. Opens Oct 2.

Yes, these are bleak times, but as if to prove that he’s no Debbie Downer, Moore closes our discussion of economic devastation with an anecdote that he forgot to tell Stephen Colbert on his show last week. So let’s end this on a cheerier note, shall we?
“A number of years ago,” says Moore, “Ben & Jerry’s made a special flavour with my name on it. They were gonna call it ‘The Waffle Truth,’ off my show The Awful Truth. It was vanilla ice cream, chocolate-covered waffle and, I think, some chocolate chunks.
“Anyway, I said, ‘I can’t do that, I don’t endorse things.’ But a year or so ago, I was going to get some Ben & Jerry’s and there was Stephen Colbert’s ‘AmeriCone Dream.’ And damn if it wasn’t the flavour they made for me! The next time I’m on, I’m going to bring the original ice cream box they made for me. I want to tell him that he’s been eating left-wing ice cream — he has been ingesting me!”
Oh, I wish he’d remembered to bring that up during the interview … I think Ben and Jerry might have some explaining to do!

Hahaha! Well, Stephen could put Ben and Jerry on notice, but as a capitalist, he will want to keep selling his ice cream!

Hmm. I wonder if Mike’s memory is a bit mixed up? Or if The Onion was starting with a bigger nugget of truth than usual? Because I just saw this old Onion story about a “The Waffle Truth” flavor. http://www.theonion.com/content/node/30909

“The Waffle Truth will honor the dynamic visionary by combining premium vanilla ice cream with strawberries, chocolate-covered waffle-cone bits, and a hint of cinnamon.”!!?!??

Either Moore suckered us a bit in his interview, or the interviewer was in on the joke, or something. But that is an awesome find. Thanks for shedding some light on the story!
