Ex-’Singled Out’ host writes open letter to Stephen Colbert
ByThis is hilarious! From an open letter Chris Hardwick (formerly of MTV’s Singled Out) posted on Nerdist:
AN OPEN LETTER: You Were ME Once, Colbert!!!
by CHRIS HARDWICK on SEPTEMBER 21, 2009Dear Stephen Colbert,
Fun Emmy show last night, huh? NPH was fantastic and good times seemed to be the theme of the night. So, what happened? Why was our eye contact so weird? Was it because it happened in the men’s room? I was that guy in a suit that you locked onto for a second, raised an eyebrow and then scowled as you breezed past to “dry your wet hands.” Did you forget? You portrayed me!
. . .
You really need to read the rest of the letter to understand the extent of Hardwick’s chagrin, but he doesn’t expect you to take his word on it all; he attaches the proof here:
Well done, sir.
H/t to DB and Twitter user aslann1211!

Doing that stupid thing where I comment on my own post, but I think this letter cracks me up most because of the description of the men’s room encounter. (That came out sounding dirtier than I intended — ugh.) It reminded me of the men’s room encounter Colin Firth described in his interview with Jon Stewart the first time I was in The Daily Show’s audience. Good times!

Oh now that’s funny. “Why was our eye contact so weird?”
Craig Ferguson either last year or the year before talked on his show about an encounter with Stephen in the men’s room of the Emmys. I think this should become a new annual thing: whoever finds himself in the Emmy’s men’s room with Stephen Colbert, report what happens. It’s kind of like Where in the World is Matt Lauer. Except instead of Matt, it’s Stephen, instead of the world, it’s the Emmy’s men’s room, and instead of guessing where he is, we’d be guessing what strange encounter he’ll be having ‘this’ year. Ok, so it’s nothing like that at all.

I’d love to hear the segment theme song from that!

This is fantastic. As a fan of Chris Hardwick, I can definitely appreciate this. I’m just imagining them in the bathroom, Stephen averting his gaze and Chris looking crushed that he didn’t acknowledge him (that sounded unintentionally dirty). HA. :)
