Hey Zoners, the wait is almost over! Tonight’s new show is so close I can almost taste it. And you know what it tastes like? Freedom. Here’s hoping that Stephen and his crew are rested and reinvigorated and ready to take on the world. In the meantime, here’s the last gasp of news from the break, your zeitgeist for September 14, 2009.

- What To Expect When You’re Expected (To Sell Your Book) – Mediaite.com: TDS executive producer and A Colbert Christmas lyricist David Javerbaum has a new book coming out called What to Expect When You’re Expected: A Fetus’s Guide to the First Three Trimesters. It’s due to hit bookstores on October 13th, and he’s got a promotional video out on YouTube to help sell it. You can see the video embedded in the article, or watch it on YouTube here. (Public service announcement: mild vomit warning.)
- Festive farewell – New York Post: Soho said good bye to one of its funniest residents the other night. Laura Krafft — who once toiled for Stephen Colbert — is off to LA to head up the writing team for Wanda Sykes’ new sitcom. (New York will miss you, Laura, but best of luck with the new gig!)
- David Cross – A.V. Club: An interview with David Cross, a.k.a. “Russ Lieber,” discussing why he took a role in Alvin and the Chipmunks as well as his upcoming projects.

- Turn Up the Tunes, Break Out Your Phrasebooks – WorldHum.com: The author of this article makes a case for linguistic diversity in music, and cites this summer’s appearance by MOVITS! on TCR — performing in their native tongue — as a positive step. The success of Äppelknyckarjazz based on that single Colbert bump is proof that Americans don’t always need to hear lyrics in English to appreciate good music.

- Sure, Obama Won, but Look Who Else Got Votes – New York Times City Room blog: The New York City Board of Elections has compiled the final results of last year’s presidential election, and out of the 800 write-in votes cast, came up with these interesting statistics:
- Socrates – 1 vote
- Hillary Rodham Clinton – 250 votes
- Bill Clinton – 1 vote
- Vladimir Putin – 2 votes
- Stephen Colbert – 3 votes (Hah! Suck it, Putin!)
- Tina Fey – 1 vote
From the article: John McCain even got a write-in vote, which at first glance seems odd. Wasn’t he right there on the ballot? But the citizen wrote a note to clarify the issue. The vote, the ballot read, was being cast for the “John McCain of 2000 Not 2008 (Totally different people.)”
