AMERICAN IDOL for outstanding art direction!? Is that a joke? Okay, who paid who?D :/

I agree! The art direction for A Colbert Christmas was so detailed and thought out! I know I’m partial to anything Stephen-related, but I think this is glaringly obvious! All of the other nominees pale in comparison. I can’t really think of anything else that could compare right now. I suppose Mad Men and, in the past, Pushing Daisies, demonstrate great art direction, but these wouldn’t fall into these particular Emmy categories anyhow.

Love the recaptcha; hate that CC lost. I mean, honestly – How much picture editing do you need to do for stand-up? Plus, I don’t exactly think of AI and “Art” in the same sentence.
Clearly these voters are not It-Getters.
At least Tina “Sarah Palin” Fey won.

I wonder if that would be enough for Stephen to put American Idol on notice, or would it be too much of a character conundrum as it’s hosted by FOX? X)

Oh no!! I’m so sorry to hear this! Crap. That seems weird to me, that American Idol won. Ugh. Let’s just hope this isn’t a precursor to next week’s Emmy’s.

Thank you for putting what I first thought in nicer terms.

Haha! I am, if nothing else, polite, I suppose. :P
And I remembered that this is a family-friendly blog. :)

American Idol??? o_o
“In particular, the art director is in charge of the overall visual appearance and how it communicates visually, stimulates moods, contrasts features, and psychologically appeals to a target audience.” – Wikipedia
This is hilarious to me because I watch American Idol to rip on their art direction (well, among other things). That intro…I think I had a seizure the first time I saw it. My mom and I refer to it as “exploding through time and space.” I can’t imagine what it’s like a flat-screen television. And that staircase that Ryan descends…and the overdramatic lighting…and those stools that impale the outgoing contestants… It is all so outlandish, you just can’t help but laugh. Anyway, Colbert partialness aside, I would have preferred just about anybody to win this one LOL.
Stay strong, Colbert team! You’ll get *something* this year!
Right?? :S

This is even worse than getting beaten by Barry Manilow *sigh*
This is making me feel all depressed now, I don’t even want to think about next weeks results.
I think the Emmy’s getting it right may cause the Apocolypse!!

There is one more award category that has yet to be awarded for “A Colbert Christmas… Original Song [Much Worse Things]! I believe it is being announced during the main broadcast because it was not presented last night.
It is up against a song from The Muppets Christmas special, a John Williams score, opening number by Hugh Jackman at the Oscars, and two Justin Timberlake ditties [one from his hosting the ESPYs and the other from SNL].
Stiff competition…but I just love that song. It is so earnest. I hope it wins!

So do I. I liked the song when I first heard it, but it’s grown on me, & now it’s one of my favorite songs.
Stephen does that effect on people, doesn’t he?

Award shows should not be honoring other award shows. It seems so self-serving.

Shame on the Emmy voters. American Idol? Really?
Yeah, yeah, I know I’m biased, but come on. The Art Direction for CC was amazing.
The Emmy Magazine could have been their “consolation prize” because they knew he wasn’t going to win anything.
There are just not enough it-getters.

Yet another reason to add to my already long list of reasons why I detest Ryan Seacrest.

D= How could the Christmas special *not* win best art direction?!? That set was a lovingly detailed work of country-cabin genius, right down to the retro spice containers in the spice-rack :(
…grrrr…emmy maroons….bah!

American Idol? That is bulls#!t. And I have a feeling that the MTV Video Music Awards only got that award because the Emmys were recognizing that awards show as the only time when MTV plays actual music.
