This post series profiles the wonderful Colbert Completists who work to keep this site the absolute best Stephen Colbert fan site on the internet.
Blogging handle:
Ann G. I use my own name because I was too lazy to come up with yet another Internet identity. I can’t keep ‘em all straight as it is.
Age:
Way older than I want to be. Let’s just say over 40.
How long have you been a Completist?:
I’ve been contributing to the blog as a Completist for about five months now, but before that I contributed via the comments for a couple of years. Actually, my very first contribution to the site other than a comment was right here — not the post itself, but the photos.
What’s your No Fact Zone news beat?:
I’m the Zeitgeist Guru. I also contribute an extra post here and there as needed.
Occupation:
Librarian. And I’m a cataloging librarian, so that makes me extra-nerdy. (I hereby officially deny that I’m hiding something.)
When did you first become a ‘Colbert Report’/ Stephen Colbert fan?:
I first discovered TCR in November of 2006, and started watching regularly that same month. The Midterm Midtacular was the very first episode I watched, and thought, “hmmm, intriguing… I shall watch more of this.” Three years later, I think I qualify for rehab. Strangely enough, I only watched The Daily Show while Stephen was still a correspondent on extremely rare occasions, so I wasn’t familiar with his work there before I started watching TCR. And yet, I remember laughing at those Mr. Goodwrench commercials without knowing until years later that it was Stephen making me laugh.
What are some of your hobbies outside of blogging?:
I spend a lot of time reading, and during baseball season I spend a lot of time agonizing over the New York Mets (they’re full of suck this year, so the pain is acute). I enjoy listening to Celtic music, and try to get to live music events, like weekend festivals, a few times a year.
Favorite recurring character on the ‘Colbert Report’:
My favorite character ever has to be Tad the building manager. Who could forget Tad’s amazing trip to the Eagle Festival? I miss Tad… (*sigh*) But lately my favorite recurring character is Sweetness. I love it that Stephen can hear her whispering into his deaf ear.
What’s your favorite part about participating in the Colbert fandom?:
Meeting so many cool people! I’ve met some great people over the Internets, and had the pleasure of hanging out with some of them at various events. This fandom attracts some amazingly intelligent and fun people, and I’m so happy that I’ve had the opportunity to get to know them.
Favorite quote by Stephen Colbert:
Every word that falls from that man’s lips is a gem, how could I possibly pick just one quote? Although I do have a t-shirt that says “I don’t trust books. They’re all fact, no heart.”
Is there anything else you’d like to tell the Zoners?:
My secret fantasy is to one day sit down with Stephen and have a deep, meaningful discussion about religion. Really.
Wow! You took the pictures of stubble Stephen a couple of years ago?!THANK YOU! Those are fantastic photos!
Haha. I never noticed that Sweetness “whispered” into Stephen’s deaf fear. That makes it doubly hilarious!]
I think having a serious discussion with Stephen about religion would be amazing and I find it to be a completely valid, understandable fantasy. One of my favorite things about Stephen is how he constantly integrates religion into his show. Many people water down religion in one way or another, but Stephen shows how nuanced it is. I hope he has Father Martin on again. Or maybe he could have a panel discussion, but there probably wouldn’t be enough time in the show for that. Hmmmm. I could see him moderating some sort of interfaith panel in real life. That would be interesting!

Yep, those pictures were mine, and I’m still amazed I was able to get them.
One of the things that drew me to TCR and Stephen was the fact that he didn’t shy away from his faith when doing the show. And Father Jim Martin is one of my favorite TCR guests. He and Stephen make a great Catholic tag team.

“I hereby officially deny that I’m hiding something.” LOL! I, too, used to laugh at those Mr. Goodwrench commercials and didn’t realize it was Stephen for awhile after I got into TCR.

Those are truly amazing photos – wow. And I agree, I would love to either listen to your meaningful religious conversation with Stephen or participate in it. That would be amazing!
