The Seven Deadly Sins on The Colbert Report: Gluttony

SevenSins

“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” (Proverbs 6:16)

Hey Zoners!  We’re headed into the homestretch of the show’s break, and to the final Deadly Sins.  Today’s sin is gluttony.  I’m not sure what makes it so funny, but Stephen eating in character is guaranteed hilarity. Thankfully for us, Stephen seems to relish it too – there’s no shortage of fantastically gluttonous clips to choose from.  So grab some chips and dip, open up a cold brew, and enjoy.  And don’t forget to share your own favorites in the comments!

Honorable Mention – “Daily/Colbert Toss: What’s for Dinner?” It’s the Writers’ Strike, and Jon wonders what Stephen’s having for dinner.  Stephen wonders a bit, too.

More munchies after the fold!

#5 – “Jan Schakowsky” America has won the hot dog eating championship, and it’s Hunger Awareness Day.  Filled with funny/gross moments (continuous seppuku! pork rinds dipped in marshmallow fluff!) and character breaks.

#4 – “Colbert Platinum – $1,000 Dishes” Stephen samples some of NYC’s most obscenely overpriced meals.  I love when he says “If I paid you another $1,000, could you make a poor person watch me eat it?”

#3 – “Obama’s Grit-Off Challenge” Stephen keeps a bag of stone ground yellow grits in his office.  And a rat trap. Grits-eating, a curse-laden character break, and full-on bluster. One of my all time favorites.

#2 – “Belgians Buy Budweiser” Belgian company InBev plans to buy Anheuser Busch, and Stephen hasn’t stopped drinking since he heard the news.  Fake drunk is right up there with fake crying in my book.  So funny.

  1. Hooray for gluttony! I, too, can’t get enough of Stephen eating or drinking…it always makes me smile because I know it is going to be hilarious or institute a character break. Stephen and food is just as fun as Stephen and Sweetness. I think, technically, food is a supporting character on the show!

  2. oh dear God I can’t wait to watch this tonight from home. I will probably enjoy this one as much as Lust. :)

  3. Ohhhh, the grit-off! Man, I wish Obama had taken him up on that. And great choice for #1!

These are fantastic. I can’t believe I live in a society that sanctions $1000 meals, though. I love segments like that where he makes people with the wrong priorities uncomfortable, as they should be. One of the many reasons Stephen is awesome.

  5. Oh, the food! So hard to pick just one favorite food segment. Scrolling along, I was going to go with the Grit-Off, but then I got to the Starbucks segment.

Hmmmm, which one is funnier? Plus all the others are wonderful. Nice job, Wren!

Also, I love the beginning of the Threatdown (Grit-Off) with the short little weep-weep. Bwah!

  6. The Starbucks freakout is still one of my absolute favorite segments. And I love the choice for #5 because I was in the audience for that one! I was one of the people going “EWWW” when he ate the spicy pork rinds dipped in Marshmallow Fluff. Because I would say “ewww” to anything involving Marshmallow Fluff.

I loved the grit-off for the character break in the middle. It still makes me LOL when that mousetrap goes off. But now I want some grits…

These are some of my favorite clips!! :D

  8. I’m playing catch-up here, in more ways than one. I knew Colbert Platinum would be included, but the rest of the clips were BC [Before Colbert (Report)] for me. You’re right, fake-drunk is as funny as crocodile tears. Not sure which I enjoyed more, the rat-trap character break, or the idea of a grit-off – which reminded me of My Cousin Vinny.

But, Starbucks – truly Number One! Oh. My. Goodness!

Thanks, wren – I enjoyed your BKAC, too.
