“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” (Proverbs 6:16)
Hey Zoners! Our exploration of the comedy in moral failings continues with today’s deadly sin, Wrath. Anger, fury, bile and ire. It seems to be Stephen’s primary emotion, which makes selecting only a few videos really difficult. Too many choices, so much anger! Strap on your righteous Wrath packs and fill the tanks with rage (“the angry joy”). Let’s watch some fury!
#5 – “The Eruption of Mt. Stephen” A great mashup of the many and varied forms of Stephen’s anger, with a generous helping of furious fist-shaking.

More fury after the fold!
#4 – “The Word – F#@k” Outrage is the only thing separating us from being Canadians, so Stephen urges us to creatively push the envelope on profanity.

#3 – “On Notice/Dead to Me – Forgiveness” Stephen doesn’t like the feeling of showing mercy, so he puts forgiveness on notice. He also wants a pardon from President Bush, and he’d like it post dated for next week. Sweetness makes an appearance!

#2 – “The Word – Brunt Double” Americans’ unfocused rage is a great untapped resource, and Stephen’s got a plan to use it.

#1 – “Jon’s Apology” Even Stephen’s friends aren’t safe from his outrage. Jon gets put on Stephen’s Called Out board for offending Geraldo Rivera and refusing to apologize. A sweet interaction between Jon and Stephen, and the best use of a fake moustache ever.

Jon’s apology was one of the first segments I saw and still remains one of my favorites. I just love it when Jon comes over because Stephen called him but Stephen plays it like Jon “chose” to.

Jon’s Apology is one of my absolute favorite videos ever! I love it when they make appearances on each other’s shows. :D

Yes, I agree. We need more of that please!

Great compilation! I can imagine it would be very hard to choose! I especially like when Stephen tells himself to calm down and pronounces the “T” in Colbert. That’s when you know he is really upset! :)

I whole-heartedly agree w/ #1. That quote, “He came to unlock the vault of your heart and when he opened it, it was empty. An empty vault. And he had a camera crew, it was very embarrassing” was such a subtle yet sharp dig at Geraldo. What an awesome comeback sketch.

Stephen’s outrage and wrath is always great. I put it right up there with fake crying and character breaks.
I adored Jon coming over to Stephen’s set and apologizing. That look he gives Stephen across the desk is priceless. And that moustache! Do you think it was a surprise to Jon that Stephen used it as an eraser? He was shaking w/ laughter. So funny.
Once again, DB, awesome picks w/ the videos!

That look across the desk is one of my favorite screencaps ever – and they reused it at some point when Stephen was talking about close relationships between men or something.
And I love the moustache bit, too! I don’t think Jon knew Stephen would use it as an eraser, he’s just laughing sooo hard. Such love to see the two of them together :)
(PS, not to be nitpicky, but I chose the videos. But I’m glad you’re enjoying them!)

Wren, I’m so sorry! Of course you chose these videos. D’oh. I guess I just wasn’t paying attention.
This is a nice series you’re doing of the 7 Deadly Sins. Great idea.

Fantastic picks, DB!
I would hereby like to nominate “The Word: Keeping Our Heads” as an honorable mention, simply for all the Romanesque gladiator-type scenarios between major bank CEO’s. I do love Stephen leading pitchfork-wielding mob jokes.
