Rolling Stone online exclusive Q&A with Stephen Colbert now available

By Ms Interpreted on September 2nd, 2009 ·

I don’t know about you, but the slow roll of outtakes and news items related to Stephen Colbert has really been helping me get through the break. And Rolling Stone has just stepped up to help slake my thirst for news — awesome.

From 'Rolling Stone' Q&A with Stephen Colbert

. . .

Stephen Colbert on Ambition

Have you ever thought of making a Stephen Colbert movie?
I have frequently been accused of being unambitious, and I would have to say that I’m still unambitious. I get to do anything I want here, pretty much. And it takes everything I’ve got to do it, so I don’t have the luxury of thinking about the next thing, nor do I have any desire, because I like it so much. Not always every minute of every day, but when I sit down in that chair and my stage manager shakes my hand and says, “Are you ready to do this?” and I say, “Yeah!”

Do you ever think about creating another character?
Sure, yeah. I did this because I spent a long time working on that character of the Daily Show person, and I still really wanted to work with Jon. I respect him so much, and I learned so much from him, and he had the deal to create a show. So Comedy Central asked me if I wanted to do a show, and we said, “Why don’t we do it together?” I love that it’s my own show, but there’s still a connection with Jon, and he’s a fantastic, fantastic mentor and friend. I’m such a lucky guy that way.

Fantastic — I’m looking forward to reading the full conversation when the magazine comes out!

Whenever I read his interview, it feels like he’s actually talking to us! The genuineness in him is so clearly evident! Can’t wait to buy the copy!

Umm, if that was just the teaser, I CANNOT wait for the main show – great interview.

I’m averting my eyes. I really dislike wanting a magazine but then ending up reading the whole article online before I actually get a copy in my hands. I can wait two days (maybe only one – the stores here sometimes have the issue out on Thursday instead of Friday).

If it makes a difference, this is just the “online exclusive” portion. It does not appear that Rolling Stone has put the actual article online, and the linked material will not be in the magazine.

Thanks! I think I’ll read the article in the magazine and then read the Online Exclusive as an added treat. It’s weird, I know…

this is exciting! I can’t even read it now, I have so many other windows open with things more pressing than “interview with favorite person on TV” but it gives me something great to look forward to!

I thought the “Before the Report” extra was a nice little look at his career since Second City. Loving RS right now!

yeah, me too! I sent a letter/drawing about a year ago, and it makes me happy to know it was well-received.

(the whole of that interview snippet was awesome, really, and I cannot WAIT for the article.)

Does anybody know where that picture is from? ‘Cause I can’t place it and I quite like it.

Could it be from Election Night ‘04? If it was from ‘08, he would have had a “C” on the back of his laptop.

Yep, and that clunky-looking laptop just screams 2004. :D

I loved this part:

“It’s interesting how by joking about the Colbert Nation, you made it exist.”
“Yeah, they want in on the fun. That was something we didn’t expect, because we joked about the Colbert Nation and then we said, ‘Oh s–t, it’s real.’ … We invented the Colbert Nation, but then we discovered it was real.”

This is really so true and it is like everyone wants to be part of the show and have fun with it. That was when I first became a fan of Stephen, when he visited Conan and Conan wanted to know if the Nation would ever get carried away and as “Stephen” he said, “I don’t care. As long as things are good for me….” I loved it so much. Surreal and hilarious.
