NASA update: The C.O.L.B.E.R.T. is now on the International Space Station

Greetings, gang! The STS-128 mission is progressing according to schedule, and as part of the activities for Day 5 (which was actually Tuesday, for us Earthlings), the COLBERT was moved from the Leonardo Multi-Purpose Logistics Module into the Harmony node on the ISS. That’ll be its temporary home until early next year, when the infamous Tranquility node will arrive at the ISS, and the COLBERT will then be moved into its permanent home. The treadmill isn’t fully assembled yet; that will apparently happen sometime after Discovery leaves the space station. Mission specialist Nicole Stott, who will remain behind with the ISS crew, will be in charge of completing the COLBERT’s assembly.

For video highlights of the COLBERT’s transfer onto the space station, you can watch here in NASA’s video gallery (it’s currently listed under “most recent”), or for highlights of all of Day 5′s activities, watch the video below. It’s about 35 minutes long; the video of the COLBERT’s transfer begins at about the 26 minute mark. (It’s the same footage from the NASA link.) I’m not going to lie to you, Zoners, it’s pretty cool seeing that COLBERT patch on the treadmill finally on board the space station!

That is really great seeing how they put that stuff in. Now I’d like to see video of them actually using COLBERT. Do you think that will be on the show?

I hope we’ll see that at some point, but it won’t be for a few weeks yet, after the treadmill is in use and the show starts taping again.

Okay, just read in an update over on the Colbert Nation board that there is no definite timeframe for completing the assembly of the treadmill. It’ll probably happen later in September.

I hope I will know when they use this the first time. My guess is no. I hope we can see more of it on Nasa TV. I do get that here on one of our public access channels at certain times of the day. I’d like to watch it at that moment. Also want to see how it is used.
