The Seven Deadly Sins on The Colbert Report: Pride

SevenSins

“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:  A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” (Proverbs 6:16)

Hey Zoners!  Welcome to our mid break mini-series on the Seven Deadly Sins, as embodied by the character “Stephen Colbert”.  Every couple of days we’ll highlight a new Deadly Sin, and pick a few clips that illustrate it hilariously in action.  Our first dish in this seven course menu is Pride, considered the source of all other sins, and the most grave.  Pride is the heart of the “Stephen” character, and it’s written all over the show, from the set design to Tip/Wag, Who’s Honoring Me Now, Formidable Opponent, and Stephen’s Sound Advice.

#4 – “Sexiest Man Alive” After only one year on the air, People magazine help themselves to a fresh hot slice of Stephen Colbert.  Little bit of Lust in there, too – Stephen still believes Matthew McConaughey is one red hot slab of smoking mantail.

More after the fold!

#3 – “The Word – Me” A celebration of Stephen’s self-confidence in honor of his 100th show.  Dizzying logic, a cute character break, and Stephen in a lovely tuxedo.

#2 – “National Treasure – The Remix” Stephen tries to get his portrait ensconced in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Treasures exhibit.  This three-part series from the writers’ strike is one of my absolute favorites – Stephen is always so funny and silly on location, and director Brent Glass is a perfect comedic foil.  It’s just gold. (This is the remix, because I couldn’t pick just one of the series. Go watch them all!)

#1 – “The Emmys” Thanks for the nomination, Emmy judges, but Stephen doesn’t need another award.  He’s already got 3 Emmys, 2 Peabodys, an honorary doctorate, and a host of things named after him.  Also includes fake crying.  We love the fake crying.

Haha! I really like the idea behind this mini-series. A little bit of a Catholic spin on things here, lol. Stephen would be proud. :P I like the videos you chose! Especially the first one – and I agree, I love the fake crying. :)

I absolutely love the heck out of this blog post concept! And I second mrtigger001′s thoughts on how much fun Gluttony will be. I suspect a quick perusal of GAST 101: Gastronomic Adventures (aka Stephen Eats!) might be in order. ; )
