Sorry this one’s a tad late – did an evening Yoga class, and it wiped me the heck out.
Let’s get right to the greatest episodes ever, shall we? Here’s #10 on the No Fact Zone list of greatest episodes ever:
#10 – A Salute to the American Lady (Episode 2128, 10/10/2006)
From beginning to end, this was a most excellent episode. From the parade of interns who brought on the lawsuit, to the R.A.P.S. segment featuring a bevy of female writers (and a few of the male ones too), to the classic ice cream three-way with Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda, this episode has it all. And the ending, with the singing of “You Are All Mrs. Colbert”, ranks up in the Top Three surreal silly things done on the show, along with Stephen beating back a styrofoam cup with a mega-packet of Sweet N’ Low and Stephen arguing health care with a desk lamp. Here’s the lyrics if you want to sing along.
- There you are full of moxie and spunk
You’re a ship that can’t be sunk
You’re a lovely summer rose with stems encased in panty hose
You’re all undeniably fair and you’re all Mrs. Colbert!
You are all Mrs. Colbert!

You are all Mrs. Colbert!

The high heels. That is just painful to watch. It looks painful and I don’t think he enjoyed that at all. lol, poor guy.

Thanks for including this, DB. When “top episodes” are mentioned, this one always comes to mind immediately.

I am so glad I was around for this one. It was on soon after I started watching, and as one only remembers snapshots of their early childhood, I only remember highlights, the song and Cooking With Feminists, and the RAP session among them. “ME!? I’m Mrs. Colbert, too!?!”
I must vote Guitarmageddon as one of the best of the best. Also:
3/4/09: Node voting update, Stephen as Xenu, the new galactic overlord of Scientology, and the DOOM BUNKER
5/10/07: Singin in Korean
The show on the night after the 2006 Midterm Election: The Word ‘Sigh’ with Stephen miming the whole thing, and THE EMERGENCY DONKEY PINATA!
Green Screen Challenge Special: GSC Montage, Bonnie and George Lucas videos, Tek Jansen installment, and Colbert/Lucas lightsaber fight.
Last night in Philly, with three major Dems appearing
Every single night in Iraq (Sorry they all made me so happy I couldn’t bear to choose just one.)

The Word: Sigh is one of my favorites! And the wicked swing he gives the Emergency Donkey Pinata. Great!

Ohhh, this episode is so fun! I wasn’t in the fandom yet when it originally aired, but I’d heard of its fame and I found it on my own. Love the interview and the high heels and the ice cream three way and the song at the end!! :D

What an interesting episode. This one was before I got into TDS/TCR. I like the whole mock-sexual harassment-suit-made-me-do-this angle. It makes me wonder, what was the context around this episode? Was it during feminism week or something? Was it around the time Bill O’Reilly had his whole scandal break out? Or was it just Stephen deciding his own news cycle?

One of the things I really enjoyed was identifying TCR staffers (Mark, Allison, …) as audience “members.”
