Hahahahaha! Once again, friendly rivals Jon Stewart and Brian Williams meet, resulting in a win for Team Stewart. From TVNewser (which might want to distinguish between “Routes” and “Routs” in the future):

Last evening, Jon Stewart and his Daily Show colleagues met NBC’s Brian Williams and the “Most Trusted Team” under the lights of west-side Manhattan for what was built up as one of the great softball games in the pantheon of amateur sports. The game started out promising enough for NBC, whose uniforms and focused warm-up startled the Daily Show squad, which responded with chants of “Ba-sic! Ca-ble!” through part of the first inning.

A 12-2 victory for The Daily Show — well done!
Although I wish the photos were clearer, it’s hard not to be grateful for any account of fun stuff like this. (I can just hear Jon’s shout of “Did you guys bring water? Who’s going to hold my inhaler?”) What a cool game this must have been!

This is awesome. I guess they have some type of league because Fallon mentioned that TDS kicked his teams ass as well.

Awesome. As I mentioned in another post, Brian Williams & Jon Stewart are a pretty killer duo.
That being said, didn’t Stephen mention something about how the TDS softball team kicks the TCR team’s ass as well? If I’m remembering correctly, it was from when Coach Krzyzewskii was on. If there indeed is a league, is it just among the late night shows? Very interesting.

You are correct, sir, Stephen did indeed mention it during his interview with Coach K (an interview that’s very near and dear to my heart, for my own reasons).

When will TDS be taking on TCR?! I know a few weeks ago TDS played Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon because Fallon showed some footage of Wyatt Cenac pitching…

My gosh, now I know what BriWi and Stephen were complaining about. I can’t find the video of the TDS vs. Jimmy Fallon, but I found some pics on the website here:

Great find! There may not be video footage, it may just have been a segment where Fallon showed the pics to the camera and commented about TDS players. It was late! :)

Indeed it was just a quick blurb in the program on 7/21. Here’s a rough transcript (its available on hulu for the next 48 hours or so.. starts about minute 3…
Last night we had our first company outing we played softball against the daily show.
[fallon descriping the pictures]
*fists of victory even though we got creamed
*i pitched a little bit
*here’s me jumping up and down cause we got one out–that’s why i was just so excited
*there’s me pitching again, someone sleeping in the outfield
*dust eat my dust daily show
*theres miles
*here’s the deal here’s the funny thing. Look at that. The daily show had 12 people we had 60 people with us with matching tshirts. They were like its clearly your first season of the show.

Wyatt Cenic was pitching they’re great guys, i just want to thank the daily show. They creamed us 22-5…but we want a rematch. BUt thanks again daily show–really fun guys thanks for letting us play, it was really cool.

I want to watch these games so bad! :D I think it’s great that all these guys get together to play ball….it sounds like so much fun! I think Jon must hire people not only based on comedic talent, but also on how they play softball!

Forget just a Toss. On like the last show before a major break, they should just show a TDS/TCR softball game, with news commentary in between innings. It could be the ultimate “Sport Report”.

I had to e-mail this story to hubby as it combines two of his favorite things: Jon and BriWi ragging on each other and softball. He’s a coach for his own summer softball team so this is right up his alley. Thanks so much for posting this!
