EPISODE NUMBER: 5108 (August 10, 2009)
GUEST: Senator Barbara Boxer
SEGMENTS: Death Panels, Cold War Update, BKAD: Maine’s 1st District
VIDEOS: Monday, August 10, 2009
Howdy, Zoners! This show was a great way to start off the new week. Sarah Palin’s refusal to simply go away now that she’s out of office is already paying dividends for late night comedy. Sadly, I have a feeling she’ll be supplying material for a long time. I loved the Cold War update, because seriously, how cool (i.e. insane) is a shoe microwave? But those poor Cubans, running out of toilet paper. How awkward for them. I do have to say that I’m not a big fan of shirtless world leaders, but the whole idea of shooting lasers out of their nipples would definitely be a unique way to fight each other.
The BKAD was quite enjoyable, although I’ll be honest and admit that I forgot most of it once Stephen started to demonstrate “wind power” by blowing on Rep. Pingree’s hand. I think I need Stephen to convince me of the benefits of wind power.
The interview with Sen. Boxer was quite good, but she didn’t convince me that her book was complete fiction. Because, you know, when you’re a liberal senator from California, and you write a novel about a liberal senator from California, it’s bound to have some truthiness in it.
Unfortunately, I don’t have time to pull the best quotes from the show, but here’s the Hulu video to enjoy all over again, and you can all nominate your favorite lines in the comments. Also, if I do this right, you can vote for your favorite segment in the poll. Knock yourselves out, Zoners!
Had to go with Cold War Update. I loved the Hot Wheels chassis under the heel of the microwave show, myself.
And I don’t want to get too political here, but I loved the death panels segment as well. Did you catch the expert panel on TDS?

I saw the Hot Wheels! Love those childhood icons! The TDS panel was funny, too.

Yes, the Hot Wheels were the best! Gotta love the props department.

Great show last night although I have to say that the audience wasn’t really into it. And the jokes were funny. Oh well, what can do?

The story about the pro-democracy ticker in Cuba had me howling. “Four score and seven anuses ago …” HA! (Although wouldn’t that be a missing tilde — not an accent mark — for that word?)
Honestly, though, I think my favorite part was Stephen in that slicker and hat. My first — admittedly blasphemous — thought was, “Okay, he’s just like a cute little Paddington Bear!” (The Gorton’s fisherman came to mind next, but that’s much less cute.)

Stephen in a rain hat and slicker! Cute overload! You could almost imagine him with his full head of hair under that little hat. I am also quite amused anytime Stephen partakes of food and/or beverage on the show because of his facial expressions and comments. The BKAD interview was good and I am convinced of the power of wind to spark electricity…though would love a personal demonstration!
During his interview with Rep. Boxer, I particularly enjoyed how he began shouting her down when she began talking health care. She did look a little surprised by this but I thought his reaction was spot on. Just trying to prepare her for any townhall meetings she might be having!

“Now this is interesting! You have authored five books on knitting…(zzzzz)…”

Haha, that was my favorite part! Oh how I love BKAD.

As much I loved Stephen in a rain hat and slicker, I had to vote for the BKAD simply because of the electricity which Stephen generated. How did Rep. Pingree continue after that?!
Wish we could have seen the thumb war:(

yeah… stephen can demonstrate wind power on my hand ANY time

Some of my favorite quotes:
“A thousand pages – that’s almost as long as a Harry Potter novel!”
“Mmm…Footy!”
“Mmm, they are cold! Where’s my shoe microwave?”
“This is wind power…. Is this generating any electricity?”
“Who’s my ideal? He’s in the mirror every morning baby. He’s the guy I shave!”

Random thoughts:
- I want that microwave shoe.
- Stephen looked cute in the fishing outfit.
- Stephen can demostrate wind energy on my hand any time he wants.
- I was greatly amused by Barbra Boxer gettting scared at what Stephen did, if even that’s probably what people will actually do, it was still funny.
- Basically all of juice’s quotes are my favorite lines.

Agree with you Ms. I, he looks like an adorable Paddington Bear! Hahaha, and just before I switched over to TCR, I was watching the movie Madeline. Yellow coats FTW!
Falling asleep while talking about knitting. I love it! :)

I was flipping by Comedy Central while TCR was taping on my DVR and I saw Stephen in his fisherman outfit and I nearly lost it. All I could say was, “Stephen’s dressed up like the Gordon’s Fisherman!!” Fantastic.
