Stephen Colbert covers the Glenn Greenwald, Chuck Todd torture debate

Regular readers probably know by now how much I enjoy reading Glenn Greenwald’s column over at Salon, and I’ve been following his take on the proposed torture investigations and Chuck Todd debates with interest. (Greenwald’s first post about Todd came after Todd appeared on Morning Joe and called the torture stories “news catnip”; Todd subsequently agreed to a podcast interview with Greenwald on the topic.) Well, my enjoyment in reading Greenwald’s column increases by an order of magnitude when he sings the praises of people I respect. Naturally, that means today is a happy day, as Glenn has picked up on last night’s edition of The WØRD: A Perfect World.

From Glenn Greenwald’s Salon column:

. . .

Last night, Stephen Colbert built a segment around my interview on this topic with NBC’s Chuck Todd — entitling his commentary “A Perfect World,” after Todd’s repeated answers to me about when high-level political officials should be held accountable under the law (only “in a Perfect World”) — in order to mock the prevailing media sentiment in opposition to the rule of law:

I really respect Greenwald (even when we disagree) for researching and sourcing the heck out of his pieces, and I couldn’t be happier that he has cited segments from The Daily Show, Stephen Colbert and/or The Colbert Report with such approval. Let’s hope there’s every reason for this lovefest to continue.

The Greenwald piece is brilliant: clear, cogent, and dead on–as was the Word last night.

Thanks for the link to Greenwald’s work.
