Stephen Colbert to perform for Two River Theater on November 1st

Nice! Those of you who are in New Jersey (or can get there) on November 1st have a rare opportunity to see Stephen Colbert in an out-of-character appearance at the Count Basie Theatre (on behalf of the Two River Theater Company). From the TRTC website:

ONE NIGHT ONLY!
A Candid Conversation with the Real Stephen Colbert
Interviewed by Aaron Posner, TRTC Artistic DirectorStephen Colbert a la Shepard Fairey -- Two River Theater Company graphic

A Benefit for
Two River Theater Company
at Count Basie Theatre

. . .

How did Stephen Colbert create one of the most intensely theatrical, bitingly satiric, genuinely important and totally original characters on television today? You’ll learn this and more in a rare, out-of-character interview between Colbert and his friend Aaron Posner.

Speaking from experience, I *strongly* urge any of you who are considering this to stop hesitating and GO. It’s a rare treat to see Stephen in person, and listening to him speak without the usual facade is that much more fascinating. (And, if any of you spring for the premium tickets and the “exclusive reception with Stephen Colbert”, I can only say that I’ll be both thrilled for you and green-eyed with envy.)

Oh, wow! This is one of the very few times I find myself wishing I was back in Jersey :)

Hmmmmmmmm. I want to, but I’m down by Philly, & the alarm goes off @ 5 am the next a.m., whether I go or not.

  3. TruthPower says:

Why am I living in hicksville Monroe Michigan while all of the cool stuff is happening out there? I hope whoever goes has fun and brings back pictures.

  4. Lilimich says:

ZZZZOOOOMMMGG!!! Come hell or high water I’m getting tickets tomorrow! This is about a stone’s throw away from my old haunts growing up so unless the world ends before November 1st, count me IN!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Lilimich says:

PS–Oddly enough, I was just in the same town as Two River days ago and not one poster or mention of this anywhere. Um, hello, this is only the coolest thing EVER!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • ColbertGirl27 says:

YAY! We have an NFZ rep! I can’t wait for your report….even though the event won’t take place until November. How the heck did this theatre get such a get?! Maybe Evie said “Honey, there’s this theatre and they’re doing a benefit…I’m on the board of trustees and I wondered….” Haha!

I don’t mean to put down the theatre as I’m sure it offers great shows, but I’m a little surprised since it’s not in NYC nor a college venue.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

        • Ann G. says:

There should be two NFZ reps, since I have every intention of going to this, too.

I just got an e-mail about the premium tickets & reception, so here’s that info: premium tickets are $250, $500, or $1000 each, and they’re for seats within the first 11 rows in the center section. (Higher price = closer to the stage.) The pre-show cocktail reception is at the Two River Theater at 6 pm. The price of the ticket includes the show, the reception, transportation from the Two River Theater to the Count Basie Theater, and an autographed copy of Stephen’s book.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

        • juice says:

Thanks for the info about the premium tickets, Ann.

        • laughing at nothing says:

@ColbertGirl27, is Stephen’s wife Evie on the board of Trustees to the theater? How did you know this, or are you just speculating? :)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

        • ColbertGirl27 says:

@ laughing at nothing: Oh, I’m just speculating! I just like to imagine various scenarios. Sorry if I misled anyone!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Lilimich says:

@ Ann G. Yipes! I wish I could afford the whole kit and caboodle, but alas, I’ll be in one of the nosebleed sections. Don’t really care though — as long as I’m there. : ) Maybe we can meet up?

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Yay!! I’m so tempted to fly down for this!

I second that, from boring old Minnesota. You’re not alone!

Even though i’m not one of them, I’m still excited for the people who get to go! This seems so cool!!!!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • kuekue says:

Hah. I had to spend a whole week in Minnesota. I almost died of boredom. And I hope someone records it for us people that are Colbert isolated!!

as someone who has left the state of MN once in 30+ years, DC for 3 days, yes it is a very unexciting place

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Ms Interpreted says:

Hey, now! I once lived there; it’s not that bad. I mean, it’s not Nebraska or [Canton] Ohio …

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

        • kuekue says:

LOL. Canton. The only interesting thing about MN is the Mall of America. It’s like the China of malls.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • SajiNoKami says:

“The only interesting thing about MN is the Mall of America.”

        @kuekue
nah, no… the mall is really nothing special… there are so many other malls, that it never made sense to me why they chose MN for it..

only thing that seems interesting about MN is how average and standardized it seems to be…

    • TruthPower says:

I live in Monroe Michigan hundreds of miles away. I really wish I was living out east. I’d like to get out of here.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Ms Interpreted says:

Sadly, I am familiar with the Mall of America. I probably enjoyed “Secrets of the Mall of America” in John Hodgman’s Areas of My Expertise a little too much for that very reason.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Erika says:

Ooh I have to check that out! Good ol’ Mall of America, our one true calling. Hey, Stephen likes to fish and we’re known for our fishing! Right? Oh, who am I kidding…..hehe.

    i would see him.

It just let me buy a ticket even though it isn’t tomorrow…go, go, go and get ‘em while you can!

I guess I’ll just return the dress I just bought to pay for the ticket!

  12. Colleen says:

Oh my god I wish I could go, I live 45 minutes away. But I’m a broke 17 year old who lost her minimum wage job and can’t find another one. I don’t even know if I have 35 bucks. I might just sneak in/break in though. OhmygodIwanttogosobad.

  13. juice says:

AnnG, were you able to buy a VIP ticket? I’m still waiting to hear back from the contact person – guess they were gone for the day when I emailed.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Ann G. says:

I didn’t get a VIP ticket, since I couldn’t really justify the expense. But I just purchased a regular ticket, and got a very good seat.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • juice says:

I’m probably going to get a regular ticket, too. As much as I’d like to go to the reception, I can’t see spending that much money – makes more sense to support my local theaters for those prices.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

FYI, Kevin Smith’s “Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash Comic Store” is down the street on Broad Street ;-)

Do you have any tickets Mrs C2?

I bought 2 via the internet in a moment of madness. I live in Brisbane, Australia and have never been to New York.

I SO want to go, but I don’t know if I can justify the cost of air fares and accommodation.

It would be an awfully big adventure BUT…
