Is the Stephen Colbert Buzzcut the start of a trend?

Not one, but TWO places mentioned the new season premiere promo from House featuring Hugh Laurie’s new short hairdo … and linked it to Stephen Colbert’s new cropped tresses. First, EW.com does some seriously gratuitous name dropping:

The buzz cut certainly agrees with Hugh Laurie, maybe even more than it agrees with Stephen Colbert. One more and it’s a trend, kids!

But TheTVAddict.com thinks it’s already there:

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Summer “Treats” We Could Do Without –

4. Actors shaving their head
First Stephen Colbert, now Dr. Gregory House, when did shaving one’s head become the new ‘Rachel?’ And while we’re on the subject — Simon Baker — don’t even think about it.

But don’t fret too much, fangirls. Last night, during the pre-show Q&A that Stephen does out of character, he was asked if he was going to keep the “Matt Lauer” buzzcut he was sporting, or if he was going to grow it out to his signature ‘do. Stephen responded that he’d be returning to his original cut ASAP. As he put it, “even Matt Lauer can’t do a Matt Lauer anymore” and his wife “feels like she’s sleeping with another man.” And he added, “That’s a good thing that she wants my old hair back.”

Stephen knows how we fangirls felt when he sheared his hair, because he had the response with, ironically enough, Matt Lauer.

If you look very closely, you can see his short hair combed over a little. Its just a small dose of pre-army Colbert, but its still there nonetheless =)

It’s starting to grow in!! That’s so cute, that his wife wants his normal hair back. Good to hear he’s not keeping the short hair! I mean, it looks okay now but…I want the luscious mane back. :P

I love his facial expressions. So true what SajiNoKami said about how he masterfully and subtly expresses sadness. I actually think with his head shaved that his facial expressions are more obvious, but I definitely miss the old hair too. Can’t wait for it to grow back. :)

I like Stephen’s buzz-cut and was thrilled (not horrified) when he got it. It’s also fine to have his hair grow back because it will still be cute-short for quite a while.

Good to know the final word on his appearance comes from Evie. :)

I hope he starts a trend, that would be fantastically hilarious!
