Greetings and salutations, kids. We all know that break weeks are tough, but I’m a little bit grateful for this one, because it bored me enough to send me searching “the internets” a bit more thoroughly than I otherwise might have. And, lo and behold, I stumbled across Flickr user robert birkenes‘ photostream, which includes some great shots from Stephen Colbert during the rehearsals at Al Faw Palace in Baghdad.
These two additions are the ones that made me feel the warmest and fuzziest inside: clips of Stephen watching and reacting to the video of his stint at basic training. They’re short, but they’re sure to bring a smile to the face of anyone who’s been to a taping and watched Stephen watch himself.
Let’s face it, Stephen cracking himself up is just so darned cute!
Aw….. these clips are adorable!
Oh, wow – I’m checking out the flickr link now … lots of Stephen clips!

Ok, not so many film clips, more photos. I love to watch Stephen mouthing the words along with the video.

Those are great video clips. It’s so cute to see Stephen laughing along and mouthing along the words. The behind the scenes pictures are really cool too.

Am I the only one having trouble viewing the videos? I can only see black boxes. Am I doing something wrong?

You are so right, one of the best things about live tapings is watching Stephen’s joy as they run the video clips, it’s so infectious. Thanks for these wonderful tidbits.

My mom does the same thing; when I repeat a story she already knows to someone, she’ll mouth the words along with me. It’s kind of annoying, but for some reason, Stephen doing it is absolutely adorable! I wonder why…
Btw your icon is one of my favorite pics of Stephen! Congrats on being awesome!

Stephen mouthing along with the words is adorable because everything Stephen does is awesome/adorable.
Also, the pic in my icon is my fave and Yay! I’m awesome.

That. Was. ADORABLE! When I got to go to the show, there was no pre-record, so I’ve never seen him do that before.
Thank you so much for finding these and posting them!

What a great find! These videos show just how hard it is to either watch the monitor or Stephen at a live taping.

Great clips! Brought back happy memories of watching Stephen watch himself sing “Singin’ in Korean”–or what little I could see of it through my tears of laughter. I wish they’d release the clip of the time that wonderful Sgt. started laughing–I’ve read about it but I’ve never seen it. CC really should release a video of the Iraq week with extras and donate the proceeds to military charities.

Candid, genuine, sincere, guileless, ingenuous . . .
Would need my Roget’s to find any others . . .
Break in character often reveals the same, but these videos give the viewer the feeling of watching through a key hole or hiding behind something somewhere to watch a delightful person simply having fun.

Again, I say, dentists of America really need his smile in every office. Gah! I love him…and I do miss his hair! I want it back, now ok?! Should be interesting to see his hair after more than a week of absences.
Also enjoyed seeing the other video where his director? producer? (forgot his name!)is consulting him during one of the shows. Stephen is so attentive.

This is amazing! Now I feel like watching a clip of him being mortified of himself during a showing..
