Q: Why did Sarah Palin choose today to resign?

A: Because Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are off for the next week.

That is all. Please enjoy this video.

    It’s funny because it’s true.

Oh, DB – I thought the same thing when I read the news! The new rule for making announcements like that used to be to do it on a Friday… now it’s do it on the Friday before TDS/TCR take a break.

    God, I love that clip…

Wow. I had the same thought.

That clip is terrific. Stephen’s laughter is contagious.

This reminds me mostly of when Saddam was hung around Christmas and Stephen expressed his frustration in the depleating number of FUSSDIRAGs (Former United States Supported Dictators Internationally Reviled for Acts of Genocide). He then revealed the big event he had planned for the occassion all along, “The Gallowtastic Executacular: Hangin’ With Mr. Hussein”.

Yeah, I saw various forms of the joke on Twitter last night. I just thought I’d give the Zoners a place to talk about the news.

      COMMUNITY!! *jazz hands*

sometimes i hate when they go on break. not because i don’t think they deserve it, but because something juicy usually happens while they’re away.

(even the re-captcha thinks this: RISKY ARTISTICALLY.)

Oh, I enjoyed that video so much. I love watching Stephen laugh.

Yep, my first thought when I saw the announcement was, argh! Of course she would do this just as TDS and TCR are going on vacation. But I’m pretty sure the writers will still get some mileage out of it when they come back, especially if the real reason for her resignation hits the media in the next week. (Yes, I’m sure there is a “real” reason, not whatever it was she said in that rambling, nonsensical speech yesterday.)

  7. I was watching the video of her speech, then clicked to her site to read along…and got a migraine.

Yeah, why do these things happen when TDS and TCR and Rachel Maddow are on vacation? Like when the Iraqi journalist hurled the shoe at GWB (http://cheezburger.com/view.aspx?ciid=2898675).

Does anyone know how long she has known she was resigning? Was this a quick decision, or does nobody really know? Because her timing for burying the story was impeccable. If she hasn’t been sitting on the story for a while, she got a perfect stretch of time to announce it.

    1) Fourth of July weekend, with the Fourth actually on a Saturday
    2) Michael Jackson memorial service coverage (actually, all the celebrity death coverage)
    3) TDS/TCR on break next week
    4) In the afternoon, so the news-cycle would be given only a short while to digest the story

Anybody think of more reasons why yesterday was such a great day? I’m sure there are more. I actually think she did such a good job of hiding it that people are noticing it, and it’s actually getting more attention than it would have if she had done it on a less politically perfect day. If THAT makes any sense.

But at the end of the day, resigning as governor is the hallmark of a true maverick!!! :S

  9. Lilimich says:

Unfortunately, I think she might be gearing up to run for President in 2012 — somebody please smack me for even *considering* that possibility. From what I’ve heard (via NBC Nightly News’s Chuck Todd) she claims she’s tired of politics, but I think it’s a bunch of hooey. Lord help us all…

My train of thought upon hearing the news

First thought: This has to be a trick.
Second thought: Jon and Stephen are going to have fun tonight.
Third thought: Wait, they’re off now.
Fourth thought: Now it all makes sense.

    My thought process was:
    - Really?
    - Can’t wait for Jon and Stephe….
    - Damnit, they’re off.
    - Nice timing, Palin.

That’s the first thing I thought when I heard this!! First they miss the shoe-throwing at Bush and now they miss this! Damn! I can’t help but think that escaping their satirical barbs was part of her motivation for announcing it now.

Only one thing left to say: Good riddance!!

Great clip, by the way. =D

I don’t think it will be feasible for her to re-enter the political scene if that’s what she’s planning on doing in a few years.
