Before we go, let’s check in with our good friend Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report…
Hello, Zoners! I have to admit a little something: as awesome as last week’s shows were, and as much as I had been looking forward to them, I was nearly as excited to see the first Toss when Stephen returned. I had a feeling it would be something special, and I wasn’t wrong. Let’s have a look:
Welcome Home, Stephen : Stephen receives a well-earned standing ovation from Jon and adjusts to his uncomfortably comfortable civilian clothes.

I could watch this over and over again. Stephen seems a little taken aback and maybe even a little embarrassed by the ovation; he stands himself and applauds, presumably for his crew, until Jon tells him to sit down and take it. “Proud of you, boy!” The video from Comedy Central’s website cuts out just a little early, because Jon did have a brief moment of seeming to collect himself before moving on to the Moment of Zen. Awwwww.
So here’s my question for you, Zoners: Great Toss, or Greatest Toss?
the greatest toss. i also watch it over & over. it gets me every time.

I’ll have to go with Greatest Toss, followed closely by the pirate one. This one practically makes me cry, then other makes me cry with laughter.
It was a great thing for Jon to do, and very surprising. Awwww, indeed.

It was nice, but I’m afraid I found it a bit cringeworthy. I guess I’m just a cynic.

I’ll just put you down for Great, then. ;-)

I love the fact that they’re both so humble and down-to-earth, so much so that Stephen found it difficult to take a round of applause for his efforts. I wish I could send out a big huge round of applause for everyone over at TCR that made the Iraq shows possible. I can’t say enough how wonderful they were.
PS–Improvised tosses = love

Not only is this the Greatest Toss, but it’s one of the three Jon/Stephen clips that I’ve watched well over a dozen times that still affects me exactly the same as the first viewing. The other two are a TDS clip broadcast Nov 10, 2003 (hint – fruit and spanking are involved), and a clip broadcast Nov 4, 2008 (at 11:00 pm EST to be precise). Dozens of viewings later and all three still bring tears to my eyes, but each for very very different reasons.
