Why were the crew of The Colbert Report so interested in R.S. Mitchell’s martial arts class in Delaware Maryland? You can click past the break to read about it… or wait until June 23 when the segment is (tentatively) scheduled to air.
Seniors take to ‘Cane Fu’ lessons
‘Colbert Report’ to air Mitchell’s Martial Arts segment
SALISBURY — After his father’s heart attack, R.S. Mitchell was looking for a way to restore his dad’s
confidence. He wanted him to feel like he could protect himself.“He had always been a confident man when going out,” Mitchell said. “But with his weakened condition, he started staying home more and more. He was walking with a cane.”
What started as a way to help his father, soon became a way to teach senior citizens self-defense and provide them with a form of exercise.
Several years ago, Mitchell, of Mitchell’s Martial Arts, started teaching older generations “Cane Fu,” a form of Filipino stick fighting.
Now, Mitchell and the class he teaches — a hybrid of exercise and martial art — is slated to air on the “Colbert Report,” a satirical cable television show on the Comedy Central network. Mitchell said he was a little hesitant about taping the class because he wanted to make sure the seniors would be respected.
“I have a funny feeling that Mr. Colbert’s stance on this will be about senior citizens becoming terrorists,” Mitchell said. “I don’t know how educational this will be.”
Network representatives were unable to discuss details about the taping, filmed at The Lodges of Naylor Mill in Salisbury, but confirmed the Cane Fu segment is tentatively scheduled to air Tuesday, June 23.

FWIW, Salsibury’s in MD, not Delaware, further proving the state I call home will never give the world anything more than DuPont & Joey B.
Also, Mitchell’s has a rockin’ website.

My bad… thanks for the correction.
You guys gave us Joey B.??

Well, Joey B as in Joe Biden, who was our senator from 1973 ’til Obama did the wisest thing possible (as far as the interests of late night comedy are concerned) and tapped him for VP.
