New Comedy Central contest – win trip to see the ‘Colbert Report’
ByIn case you haven’t visited ColbertNation.com yet today (and shame on you if you haven’t! it’s a fantastic site!), you definitely need to sign up for the new contest sponsored by Comedy Central.
Don’t waste your time at one of those elitist colleges that makes you read “books” and fills your head with “facts.” Earn your degree from Colbert U. instead! Enter the Get Your Doctorate from Colbert U. sweepstakes for a chance to win a three day/two night VIP trip to New York City, tickets to a live taping of the Colbert Report and cash, all brought to you by Dr Pepper.
Just so you know, the contest has nothing to do with our sister site, Colbert University or the degree we offer [PDF]. We only offer a bachelor’s degree, since we don’t have the budget of a Viacom marketing department.

Psshh, “Dr. Pepper” should have totally coordinated with the existing Colbert University when they decided to offer Colbert (Honorary?) Doctorates. Attach a midterm exam in there or something. Really make them *actually* earn their degrees, at least!

As I was reading the contest site I thought, “Hmmm, this is news to me. Did I miss an e-mail?” Apparently, it’s just a coincidence but a very funny one at that.

Sorry to be the snotty, critical academic but I am disappointed in Dr. Pepper and/or the program for not being more creative with this. That is to say, if the Colbert “Nation” really is a nation, they should have contacted the real Colbert University and gotten the real fan site involved, perhaps even done something creative with the curriculum. Now I know that that is unrealistic–for a major corporation and its lawyers to think creatively and take few risks. But it does disappoint me a bit.

It is too bad, it would have been great publicity for the site as well. They had to know about CU’s existence wouldn’t you think? I imagine money /sponsorship issues were involved in the decision.

Isn’t “Colbert University” trademarked by you vigwig?
So sorry they aren’t using the real CU.

Not at all! It’s a joint venture – aka, sister site – with NFZ, WordswithGrace is the webmistress and Lisa is the archivist (fractist? :)
I write the quizzes, did the final exam, and the Nailings course. Don’t think there are any trademarks involved.

It’s “Colbert Nation”’s loss for not using the real thing. That’s why I’m not crazy about that site, because they’ve made it all Comedy Central-ized and it doesn’t seem as genuine to me as it used to. Yeah, it’s better as a website technically, but I like real fan-based communities like this. It feels more honest, personal, and welcoming here.
And of course, the age barrier has whipped my bones again. Three years of waiting for equality has left me impatient. -.-

Um…I entered but when I click submit, it says “collection is null” next to “Entry Form” on the next page. Am I doing something wrong or has this happened to everyone else?

K. Done and done. I hope I win!
But, really, Vigwig, they should have partnered w/ the Real Colbert U.

Kind of strange that this is sponsored by the makers of the kind of high fructose corn syrup that Stephen constantly rails against. Now I want a Dr. Pepper.
