Sir Dr. Stephen Colbert flies with the Air Force Thunderbirds

Oh man, I am LOVING these pics! According to these photos from vayaconqueso‘s LiveJournal post, our friend Stephen Colbert was a celebrity guest of the renowned Air Force Thunderbirds.

The Thunderbirds are rumored to take pride in making their guests, er … revisit earlier meals, and it looks like Stephen didn’t disappoint them.

And here’s one of Stephen with both feet back on the ground (as firmly as they ever are). Thanks to the great fliers and crew for giving our favorite pundit such a ride.

Celebrating a successful flight and a happy landing

Click on the above link or the pics to see more (and bigger) photos, plus some info on what was going on during the Thunderbirds’ show. Very cool stuff!

EDITED TO ADD: This reminded me of the time Jon Stewart was interviewing Lt. Col. Kevin Robbins, one of the Thunderbird commanders, on The Daily Show. I think this might have been my favorite line: “Now, you guys have very graciously invited me to fly with you, and I just wanted to tell you — and it was such an honor — NO. I wanted to say that, right here, right now. And I’m going to tell you why, and a lot of people don’t know — could be thinking something different. Here’s why I’m not going to — and I mean this — I’m scared.” Hee!

  4. Wow!!! That had to have been an awesome experience for our fearless leader, Sir Dr. Stephen Colbert. I love that they used that name on the airplane, BTW. The pictures are amazing. One of them is going to become the new background on my computer. I just have to figure out which one…

Do I dare hope video footage of this will show up on TCR in the near future?

This man is seriously living my dreams, first boot camp, now this.! Being an invalid sucks. This is one of the coolest things he’s ever done.

I hate vomit. I cannot express to you my distaste and disgust in the whole concept. Gross, gross, gross. I cannot believe that we have not only vomit, but Stephen Colbert’s vomit, on my site.

    *shudder*

That being said, excellent find, MsI! Zoner Completists rock!

We all have our grossosity. I can handle vomit, though it doesn’t mean I’d want to feel the G force that causes it. I admire Stephen for having the courage to accompany the AF Thunderbirds. Cheers to Colbert for his continued support of our armed services!

This is wrong, but I LOL @ “I cannot believe that we have not only vomit, but Stephen Colbert’s vomit, on my site.
” It could have been worst especially if it came out the other end.

      ….I’m still laughing.

XDDD That is a horrible thought but I lol’d anyway because I am a nurse so I am used to dealing with all bodily functions.

I actually thought about that when Jon told Letterman about having a stomach flu w/ diarrhea so bad he had to go to the hospital for IV fluids. I felt so bad for him, but kept thinking how weird it would be to be taking care of him, especially at a time like that

Blech. I agree with you, DB. I have a very low tolerance for vomit.

The F-16 went from zero to 10,000 ft in 8 SECONDS! Yowza! No wonder he lost his lunch. I get queasy on a roller coaster. Must have been thrilling though.

Those pictures are so awesome!!! Although I have to admit that I would be more likely to go with Jon on this one: I’m terrified of heights. That being said, Stephen looks so cool and I love his hair in the second picture. =)

I was at the airport that day.

This is going to be aired during his Iraq week. (Not being a fan, I don’t know much about the show.)

I can say this, Steven did the walk down with the other pilots, with his luggage in tow. (Pretty funny).

He wore a “Thundercats” Tee-shirt under his flight suit. (Really Funny)

When the cameras stopped rolling after the flight, I thought he was going to have to be rushed to the hospital. He was terribly airsick for 3 hours after the flight. (Spent about 90 minutes in the bathroom). He was always in good spirits and always a good sport about it. I think the segment will be really funny and all you Colbert fans will love it.

He’s a really good guy from what I could tell.

Thanks so much for sharing this!

Poor Stephen — I’ve got to say, airsickness really sucks.

Still, it sounds like an amazing experience, and I’m really looking forward to seeing footage from it.

      Thanks again!

Poor Stephen! I would never have guessed how sick he was by looking at the photos…even though he’s carrying his own vomit in one of the photos. Haha.

I guess he’s just a great actor because if I felt that sick, I couldn’t fake it.

      Thanks for sharing.

I was very surprised. As he walked the ramp and waved to the crowd,I thought he was fine. As soon as he was out of the public eye and the camera was off, he dropped the act.

He is a VERY GOOD ACTOR.

    • Ms Interpreted says:

Oh, he most definitely is that; I’m sure most of the regular readers here will agree.

Again, I’m so grateful that you’re sharing all the details — thanks so much. It sounds like you (and Stephen) had a really memorable day, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what the show does with the footage.

Oy, I’m just imagining it again — terrible! I’ve never actually thrown up on a plane, but I’ve come darn close (and I used to get terrible motion sickness even in car rides of a mile or so). I just want to send that poor man some virtual hugs.

And I’m still quite envious of his opportunity to fly with them. How crazy am I? :)
