Happy Birthday, Stephen Colbert!

By Ms Interpreted on May 13th, 2009 ·

Celebrate, O members of the Colbert Nation, for our pundit extraordinaire is 45 today. Happy birthday, Sir Stephen!

To commemorate this illustrious event, I’m reposting the birthday message Stephen recorded on behalf of DonorsChoose.org, in which he asks those of us willing and able to do so to give students and educators across the country our support and assistance.

I can’t stress enough what a great charity this is (First Lady Michelle Obama agrees); it’s hard to argue with an organization that seeks to fund projects to better educate our nation’s youth. If you haven’t been to Stephen’s Great Give-Back Birthday page for a few days, he has added a number of new educators’ requests; you might want to take a look to see whether you notice any projects that are particularly near and dear to your heart. While larger contributions usually get more notice, one of the things I love about this organization is that you can help fund specific projects even if you can only afford $5, $10, $15 dollars at a time; it really does make a difference.

We know the Zoners here are a generous-minded bunch, and we certainly know how much you all love Stephen, so, if you think it’s in your budget, please consider adding to the over $4000 already raised in honor of this man’s birthday. (A bonus: we heard that Stephen is reading the messages that people are leaving on projects funded through his Great Give-Back Birthday page.)

Here’s wishing the best for the classrooms in need and hoping Stephen has the happiest and most rewarding of birthdays!

I made a donation to DonorsChoose the day I first heard about Stephen’s birthday page. I became so excited about the project I contributed to, I obsessively checked on its status until I saw that it had been fully funded (OCD FTW). I can’t make another donation right now but I will definitely do so when I am able. It really is a great charity and it’s wonderful to be able to see where your money is going.

Happy Birthday, Stephen! I hope that your day is filled with as much joy and happiness as you bring others. You are such a light in this world and you make me laugh no matter what is happening in my life. For that, I will always be grateful.

I just made a small-ish donation on the site, which is all I can manage right now. But the great thing is, even if you donate a small amount, a lot of small donations can really add up! Glad to see that Stephen uses the mindless adoration of millions towards a good cause. :) Happy birthday, Stephen!

Happy Birthday Stephen! I donated to donorschoose.org on behalf of your birthday. You are an inspiration to us all. I love you so!

I love the “cloud” by Stephen’s head which pops up and says “Go Stephen! It’s your birthday!” Cute!

Happy Birthday, Stephen! Thanks so much for making us laugh and smile ever so much. Fantastic job in introducing your whole Nation, and thus my teaching family, to DonorsChoose.org, which we donated to last Friday in honor of your birthday. We teachers don’t always get a lot of credit for what we do. It makes us feel really good that you indeed like us! Well, we certainly like you. Thanks again.

Happy Birthday, Stephen!

Thank you for using your extraordinary gifts to connect the Nation with DonorsChoose.Org. I never would have known about this wonderful organization without the Colbert Bump. I happily gave in honor of you and my friends in the Navy who will have children in school soon.

Once again, thank you and everyone at TCR for providing a reason to laugh four nights a week, despite what may be going on in the world.

Such a great idea; we all get to feel like we were really able to give Stephen something for his birthday (and help others on top of that! Bonus!). I can hardly wait until August so I can donate my birthday, too. I always get presents on my LiveJournal, and I feel bad that I don’t take proper advantage of them (more icons, voice messages, premium features and all that stuff; I just don’t use it). Now I can dedicate my birthday to donorschoose.org and that money will go to something that people really need! Yay for donorschoose.org and Stephen Colbert!
