I don’t think we’ve mentioned it here before, but some WGAE members are making the trip to D.C.’s Newseum tonight to speak about media, politics and comedy. Some of the people scheduled to make an appearance are writers dear to the hearts of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report fans: J.R. Havlan (The Daily Show), Tim Carvell (The Daily Show) and Opus Moreschi (The Colbert Report).
Why would anyone here be interested in such a thing? Consider these musings from Daily Show writer Elliot Kalan:
Politics, Comedy, Media: They Put the “Human” in “Humanity”
Since the dawn of time, man has yearned to hold a Writers Guild of America, East event at Washington, D.C.’s Newseum examining the relationship between politics, the media, and comedy. This Friday, May 8th, that millennia-old dream will finally be fulfilled, freeing humanity to move forward on achieving the next item on its checklist: world peace.
But why has this particular collection of concepts (politics, media, and comedy) beguiled us for so long? To answer that, let’s return to the very birth of the universe …
There you go. This is what we’ve been waiting for, this one panel discussion that will, when concluded, pave the way for world peace.
And you’re invited to watch! Huffington Post has set up a USTREAM window where you can watch it live from 7:00 – 9:30 PM (EDT); check it out here, unless you want me to blame you for the postponement of world peace.
Ooh, good catch, MsI! Of course, now I have to try to get home by 6p – that should be fun. But I really want to see this!

It’s not working for some reason. Their feed got messed up. Too bad, maybe they’ll post it later.
