Episode 5063 (5/7/2009)

epguideiconEPISODE NUMBER: 5063 (May 7, 2009)
GUEST: Mitchell Joachim
SEGMENTS: Sean Hannity’s Liberty Tree, National Prayer Day, Smokin’ Pole – The Fight For Arctic Riches
VIDEOS: Thursday, May 7, 2009

There was something about tonight’s interview that I found absolutely delightful. I enjoyed the shyness of the guest, and his amazingly out of the box ideas for changing some of the norms of society. And his hair was pretty groovy.

I also loved Stephen’s break down of Sean Hannity’s freedom tree. Well, and the general satirizing of Fox news for the entire first segment of the show. There’s something terribly wrong with that network.

Did I miss anything about the show that really struck a chord with you?

  • I’m a big fan [of Sean Hannity]. There is no one I would rather be trapped on a desert island with, and not just because his neck can be used as a flotation device.
  • That’s like building a stadium on a foundation of concrete, steel, and another stadium.
  • And don’t get him started on the pomegranate of reverse discrimination.
  • So thank you, Sean Hannity for taking us to your Liberty Tree and not miles out of the way to the Making Sense bush.
  • You are going down, FreeCreditReport.com guys!
  • One year he even offered a live sacrifice of Scooter Libby.
  • And if Obama is good, and ice cream is good, why isn’t Obama having a national day of ice cream?
  • Exactly. By closing the doors on his prayers, Obama is letting us down almost as much as Jesus did when he said in the gospel of Matthew, “Whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door.”
  • Prayerfanelia – Lucky Praying Hat, Holy Cross Cheetos, Giant foam prayer hands, and prayer pep squad – the Dansciples!
  • These Indians are trying to steal our land! Oh, you know their tricks. Remember how they made us pay $24 for Manhattan? What a rip off! We could have gotten a much cheaper knock off version in Chinatown.
  • This is a shocking revelation – Canada has a National Department of Defense?
  • The one thing I always felt was missing from nuclear power plants was the ability to capsize.
  • If you were trying to get me lost in the woods of your mind, it’s dark and I’m scared.
  • You’re fired if your working for General Motors anyway.
  • You realize you’ve been scooped by the Keebler Elves on this one.
  • Eventually, Mitchell, will we all be living in your hair?

  1. I voted for the National Day of Prayer for several reasons:
    1) I was irritated yesterday with the people who were complaining that President Obama wasn’t doing enough to observe the National Day of Prayer.
    2) My favorite line from the episode came from the Day of Prayer segment: “By closing the doors on his prayers, Obama is letting us down almost as much as Jesus did when he said in the gospel of Matthew, ‘Whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door.’”
    3) I loved the giant prayer hands, the Holy Cross Cheetos, the hat, the cheerleaders, and the prayer chants.

    Loved this episode. Great show!

I voted for the Day of Prayer segment because I loved how over-the-top it was with the cheerleaders, but that Liberty Tree… oh, man. Because the perspective Hannity was trying to get across was just too complicated to comprehend without some overwrought metaphor. I was waiting for him to say that there were revolutionary squirrels crying Beckian tears trying to stop the apple pickers by throwing tea bags at them.

  3. Lisa says:

I had to vote for that weird convoluted tree of Sean Hannity’s because it yielded this joke: “So thank you, Sean Hannity for taking us to your Liberty Tree and not miles out of the way to the Making Sense bush.” And who doesn’t love Stephen’s lucky prayer hat and foam fingers? Great show!!

I agree the Making Sense bush at the end of Hannity’s hilarious metaphor was made of LOL. XD

I voted for the interview with Mitchell Joachim simply because I love it when Stephen becomes so fascinated by a subject that he completely drops character. I think Mitchell had him at nerf car:) So cute!

I enjoyed the prayer segment as well, but the cheerleaders bothered me. Jealousy? Maybe.

I voted for the interview as well. I found Joachim’s ideas completely fascinating and Stephen seemed genuinely interested. Of course, the Liberty Tree and the prayer segment were very funny and I enjoyed them both as well.

I voted for the Joachim interview because it was just fascinating. I can’t believe Stephen didn’t make an Lord of the Rings reference to the tree houses – it was like a elf house.
Sean Hannity, clearly, has fallen off the liberty tree and onto his head! Plus I never seen such happy, thrilled cheerleaders. They looked like they were ready to do a huge collective squee. I wonder where they came from, dial-a-cheerleader?

    • Colleen says:

Haha, that’s what I thought too, I thought he was gonna reference the hobbit houses. And I agree, I loved that interview, it was so cool to hear about those ideas, they make so much sense but are so out there

Although my favorite part was the biblical burn with that prayer bit, haha, so perfect!

  6. Holly says:

I had to vote for the Hannity bit, because any time Stephen gets to point out how absurd that guys is is great. But I was also veerrrry appreciative of his bringing up the Matthew quote in the prayer segment. (and “prayeraphenalia” is a great new word!)

I also really enjoyed the interview. Those ideas were fascinating, and the guest’s demeanor (and hair!) was enjoyable as well. But the best part was Stephen saying about 20 times, “really? soft cars? you really mean soft cars, it’s not a metaphor?” glee! He’s right though, it is really thrilling to see people really thinking outside the box – even if those particular ideas don’t come to fruition, it is worthwhile to exercise our imagine-new-possibilities muscles a bit more.

  7. forsakinghalfloves says:

    I loved Stephen’s tie last night. :)

    Hooray for prayerphernalia!

And the interview was very interesting. I love how TCR can be used as a platform to promote ideas that seem very out of this world but with the potential to become reality. More power to our brave thinkers! :)
