Guest alert: Queen Noor of Jordan

Squee! The ever-awesome loudfan of The Late Night TV Page fame has just totally made my afternoon by posting the schedule for next week’s guests, which includes the former Queen of Jordan, Queen Noor. I read her memoir, Leap of Faith, about a year ago, and she’s an incredibly interesting woman who has become an international humanitarian figure over the years.

Having just mentioned how much I’d love to see her interviewed in a comment to one of my recent posts, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how excited I am about this interview. In fact, it makes me feel like Miss America — no, better, Mrs. Colbert!

I remember JUST reading your comment about how you wanted to see her interviewed, too! Talk about timing! This should be amazing.

I was so tickled pink when I saw this, seriously. I have my little wish list of men and women I’d love to see on The Report, and I always get psyched when I see one of them scheduled. That probably goes double when it’s one of the women, since you just don’t see as many of them on the talk shows, percentage-wise.

Reading Queen Noor’s memoirs was really interesting, given her background and the usual perspective with which our mainstream media addresses anything in the Middle East. I know one of her pet causes deals with the way “Arabs” are portrayed in Hollywood (so, more generally, the way anyone with darker skin tends to be typecast into roles as “terrorist” or whatnot); I think that could be an interesting topic for Stephen. Even movies I find enjoyable (like Iron Man, to use one recent blockbuster example) aren’t immune from critiques in that regard. So … yay! I’m really excited to see how it turns out.

Oooh, just saw her on Rachel Maddow’s show a minute ago, and it looks like she’ll probably be talking about the Global Zero initiative (eliminating nuclear weapons in the world). I’m glad I got to see that interview; she’s been involved in so many causes (land mine eradication, environmental causes, etc.) that I didn’t know what to expect. I’m really, really looking forward to this.
