Weekend Brunch

Weekend BrunchGood morning, Zoners! Today’s brunch menu includes French Toast, scrambled eggs, bananas and a fresh cup of coffee. I’m super excited about the coffee because I went out today and bought my very own 5-cup Mr. Coffee coffee maker. I’m teetering precariously between being a person who drinks coffee and a “coffee drinker”. I don’t think I’m ready to do the whole grind-my-own-bean scene, but it’s nice to get a cup of coffee that doesn’t cost $2.

Last weekend was lots of fun for me – the hubby and I spent the weekend at a very charming Bed and Breakfast, and went to see a live taping of “Pinks! All Out” at the Texas Motorplex. While it was lots of fun to watch cars go fast for hours and hours, the sunburn was not so fun. I’m kinda tired of looking like a lizard, so I hope all the peeling is just about done.

This week, I’ve been sitting back a bit from the blogging, as you may have noticed. I’ve been spending time with my cats and husband, focusing on my new job, and getting caught up on my TiVo backlog. Helpful hint: getting caught up on Man vs. Food at 12a is a bad idea – it will give you a serious case of the Good God I Want A Hamburger. Sometimes I just need a little time to recharge and rest from the day-to-day responsibilities of being a webmaster, and having a dark week was perfect timing for my tired little brain. We made sure that No Fact Zone covered the big stuff, but there’s a whole lot of smaller stuff that I’m going to work on putting in Zeitgeist posts today. I’m also working on paring down the time sucks in my life, so that I can focus more on the value-added parts of my life, like this blog. It’s amazing how cutting down just five RSS feeds and a half-dozen Twitter follows has saved tons of time each day

I’m planning today to work on getting the chat room going for a regular Sunday night thing – I think the 50+ people who visited last Sunday night had lots of fun. .

Here’s my question for the day:
Who all went to go see “Monsters vs. Aliens” this weekend? And how amazingly awesome was it?!

The hubby and I went and saw it at a Midnight showing, which was very surreal considering that there were only about 20 of us in there and none were children. There were multiple instances of me being the only person in the theater who laughed, and I didn’t even care. Of course, I adored the Stephen Colbert character, but I also loved the Seth Rogan character “BOB” so very much. And Dr. Cockroach was the reasons for at least a couple of my laugh-alone outbursts. All in all, it was an adorable movie, with some amazing 3-D effects, and some very funny scenes. I would highly recommend seeing it in 3-D if at all possible, and make sure to stay through the credits.

happy weekend all! I’m eating a piece of pie I forgot was in my fridge. which begs the question: how did I forget about PIE!?!?!? geez. it’s yummy. I might be getting crumbs in the keyboard though…

I didn’t get out to see the new movie. I love the people providing the voices though! I like Rainn Wilson, despite not watching The Office, and Hugh Laurie, despite not watching House MD, and Stephen Colbert…uhh…whose program I do actually watch! yay! I have enjoyed watching behind-the-scenes clips on youtube too.

I went to go see it with my friend, and we must have looked a bit out of place, two eighteen year olds among a sea of tired parents and five year olds. It was such a great movie though, and I laughed a bit too much at the part with Stephen and the alien monster and the keyboard. And I totally loved BOB and Hugh Laurie’s brit voice, and it took me like a day after I watched to to realize Rainn Wilson was the voice of the alien

Mmmm… after reading that now I want coffee and some toast… actually that might end up being my dinner. Because it’s too much work for me to make a frozen bertolli dinner.

I thought M vs A was great. This new Real 3D stuff is blowing my mind. All of the voice cast was great, loved hearing Colbert as the president. Was an overall good time.

I was amazed at the new Real 3d too. Not much of Colbert, but his part was great. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t leave during the credits. Stay there. There is more President after that.

Haven’t seen the movie yet, so I can’t comment on that.

But your assessment of the coffee situation has me seriously concerned! When you tweeted earlier that you were approaching the “Coffee Drinker” line in the sand, I pictured something scarier, like 6 cups a day and chewing whole beans & caffeinated gum in the interim scary.

But a 5 cup automatic coffee-maker?? I hadn’t classified myself as a Coffee Drinker, either, but now I’m a little worried that I have misjudged where that line is… I’ve got two french press makers (one small, one big), two espresso makers (one stovetop, one electric), two coffee grinders (one chopper, one mill), and two open bags of beans (one decaf, one regular). In my own defense, I don’t even drink it every day, and never more than one cup a day. Perhaps Coffee Connoisseur instead?

*sigh* I think I’m going to go make some coffee.

I, in fact, did not see MVsA yet. It was opening week of my school musical, Oliver! so I had a pretty busy weekend, which is why this week’s FSR might be a little late. I have a show on thursday, friday, and TWO on saturday.

    OMG LOVED MVA. SO MUCH.

I loved Stephen’s bit with the robot alien and him playing the keyboard (Close Encounters? theme song?) and BOB was fantastic. Our theatre was packed, but me and the old guy behind me were like the only two people who laughed during some parts. I’m certain I embarrassed my little sister and her friend. Though, I think the best part was when I saw the main credits and it was like 50% old Daily Show correspondents and the other 50% the Office actors. Seriously, Stephen + Ed Helms + Rainn Wilson + John Krasinski, and Paul Rudd + Kiefer Sutherland + Seth Rogan for good measure. The fact that my fandoms collided just about blew my brain.

Also, for you country fans… I just took the opportunity to listen to Taylor Swift’s whole CD (yes, I know, I’m behind the curve a bit on this one) and she has a track entitled “Hey Stephen”. It’s just lovely and I think any music fan could appreciate it. :)

Have you ever YouTube’d “Ed Helms Tom Brokaw?” It’s a treat.

          LOL! Yes!!

I haven’t seen that on YouTube, but he does the impression in one of the commentaries on an episode of “The Office.” I gotta go YouTube that now! Thanks!

I and my friend went to see Monsters on Friday as well. BOB and Stephen were my favorite characters, and I think that fake-jiggling Jello at someone will be my favorite way to one-up them for at least a week.

Question to anyone to has seen the movie: Does anyone recognize the little song that “Stephen” plays before launching into his funk dance? I feel like it came from a movie that I’ve seen before, but I can’t quite remember what it is.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Bri says:

It’s the same song used as the theme song in Beverly Hills Cop.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • DB says:

Yes, it’s called Axel F, and it’s from “Beverly Hills Cop.”

Fun Fact: The soundtrack for that movie won a Grammy. I know this because one of the writers of one of the songs that was on the soundtrack but not the movie was working at a local piano bar that I frequented in my mid-20′s. He was a serious flirt and at one point during one of his drunker flirtations, he stuck his tongue in my ear. (Ew.) So I have officially had a Grammy winner’s tongue in my ear.

      Was that an overshare?

FRENCH toast? Stephen said he was outraged to have french yogurt (or yogHurt to “them”) in grocery stores.
    That’s my morning rant.
I haven’t gotten the chance to see Monsters vs. Aliens but my mom and I might see it tomorrow thanks to my school having off tomorrow because it’s Ceaser Chaves day and my school is 80% hispanic. I’m really excited to see the movie even though I read Stephen has a small part in it.
Does Hugh Laurie put on his American accent for this movie or is he speaking normally?

  9. Bri says:

I saw this movie and I laughed quite a bit at whatever Stephen’s President had to say. I also enjoyed B.O.B. and Hugh Laurie’s character.
It wasn’t a great movie, but I know I will definitely be buying the DVD.

And I used to just have the occasional cup of coffee, but thanks to Starbucks and working in an office has made me very much a drinker.

    • DB says:

Yeah, I think this new coffee drinking thing has something to do with my new job. But it’s such a luxury to have a cup of coffee in my own home. It makes me feel like such a grown-up.

    Happy Weekend, everyone!!

My brother and I went to see Monsters VS. Aliens on Friday and we did feel a bit out of place because everyone else in the theatre was probably under the age of twelve. But we loved it! A lot of the jokes, I think, actually went over the kids’ heads. Very, very funny stuff! I loved “BOB” and Dr. Cockroach and I really wasn’t expecting such a good storyline! There were some cool Stephen references in there that only members of the Nation would get and – as DB said – stay through the credits!! You’ll be glad you did. I’d definitely recommend this movie, very clever and worth the $8.

Hey guys. Been a lurker, now I’m a poster. Figure I’d start here.
So anyway, I’ve yet to see Monsters Vs. Aliens, although I might be able to see it Friday. I’m quite excited to see it. As to the coffee thing, I don’t know what you should call yourself, the only thing I really know about coffee is that I don’t like it.

wow! I saw it in 3D and cheered out loud when Stephen’s character made his entry! And how awesome was it to see Stephen’s name as “And…Stephen Colbert as The President”??? I was sooo happy and excited! The theater I went to was packed and people had lined up an hour before the show to get good seats…it was an amazing experience…and yeah, Stephen returning at the end is a sweet surprise!

The theatre you went to was packed? I has a slightly different experience. I went to the first showing at my theatre at 10:20am.

Hey, I didn’t have to work on Friday and wanted to see the movie the moment it was first shown here. I went by myself. I’ll go with a friend later. Since it was 10:20am on a Friday, the theatre was virtually empty. There were only 5 people there. Kids were in school and it was a Friday.

I loved the “and Stephen Colbert as the President” beginning.

I also enjoyed the movie and attended a 3-D version! It was a nice break from writing papers for grad school. In fact, I would love to go again–but this time with my niece, so I don’t look too out of place. :) It does have laughs for everyone! And I love the President’s line: “I am a brave president!” as he is being carried into the helicopter!

    Happy Sunday everybody!

I dearly wish I could’ve gone to see Monsters vs. Aliens this past weekend, but I’ve been stuck in bridal shower from hell planning all week. I’m SO ready for our boys to come back tomorrow, you have NO idea. I think I need a nice bubble bath, a glass of wine (perhaps multiple glasses of wine), and a really good movie.

Glad to hear everyone enjoyed the show. : )

My husband and I took our kids to see it yesterday afternoon. The 3D effects were so cool! My son loved it! My daughter was much less interested and refused to keep the glasses on, but she’s only 3 so I was just happy she sat quietly through it. Thank you giant tub of popcorn! My husband and I thought it was a lot of fun, not great, but a lot of fun. I loved BOB and Dr. Cockroach and Keifer Sutherland’s General was pretty funny too. Stephen’s part was really small but he did have a couple of funny lines and I liked how they called him “Papa Bear”. Only people who watch TCR are really going to get that. I would bet $10 though that his funniest lines are in the outtakes. I hope they include those with the DVD, which my son will undoubtedly want.
