I found a very interesting twitter from Neil Gaiman’s account today:

So it looks for those who have been clamoring for a Neil Gaiman guest appearance with Stephen Colbert are about to have your fandoms collide. And for those of you who are regular readers of No Fact Zone, you will know that Neil Gaiman is quite the it-getter, which should make for a very fun interview. Here’s a segment on ‘The Colbert Report’ that featured Neil Gaiman and his recent Newbery award win.
I really hope Colbert’s gentle with him – and I hope that the show knows that the guy literally is flying from his father’s funeral to go to the show. Kudos to Neil, and i know he’s an It-Getter (or as far as anyone can know anyone through Twitter, eh?) but…
I just love Neil.

We at dear old OSCLA are totally nerding out over this.

Very excited about it! Especially since he so rarely makes media appearances. Neil sounds like he’s looking forward to it, too. He later tweeted “hope I’ll get a proper Colbert interview. I figure my job is just to answer the questions and hold on for the ride. It’ll be fun.”
But I don’t think anyone need worry about Stephen being gentle with Neil. After all, Stephen scales the intensity of the interview to match the guest. He’s always said that he wants them to feel welcome, and to have fun, and the staff are universally described as solicitous and friendly. No worries. I think he’s in good hands.

in good hands…that’s what I was thinking as well. it’s always said that the interviews are calculated for the guests’ comfort levels, which I think is among nicest things a television show can do.
I’m looking forward to it. kind of embarrassing to put it this way, but I’m excited when there’s a guest I actually know about for a change!

Again, the point was just that I hope when designing that comfort level they are aware that Neil just lost his father this week.
Anyone’s comfort level would likely be different the week after they lost their parent vs. what it would normally be, so the post was just hoping that CR is aware of Mr. Gaiman’s very, very recent loss.

absolutely. it wasn’t my intention to imply otherwise.

I’ve just recently become a fan of Neil’s. My friend’s a huge fan, so I’ve know about him for awhile, but just got around to checking him out this past month or so. I just finished Good Omens, which was absolutely amazing. I’m very excited for Monday, and even more excited to tell my friend, the long-term fan, if she doesn’t know already.

Haha — Good Omens was hilarious. So many crazy little touches. I laughed like such a loon when I first read that all tapes left in cars for more than a fortnight morph into Best of Queen. Have you read his American Gods yet? That one’s really great. And — I couldn’t say why, particularly — but his Books of Magic graphic novel totally sticks in the imagination, too.

I’m reading American Gods right now, and it’s fantastic. Really had me sucked in from the first couple of pages, and is going very fast now (maybe 1/2 way through). Great stuff!

Evidently, Neil tweeted after interview this afternoon and mentioned an exchange he’d had with Stephen about Tom Bombadil. Oh, dare I hope there’s Lord of the Rings geekery on the show tonight? [singsongs in own head, "Tom, Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!"]
