Episode 5030 – R.A.P.S. (Awesome!)

R.A.P.S. (Awesome!)It’s always a good show when Stephen Colbert puts out a formal call to the Nation. However, the Beer Pong segment was absolutely hysterical. I love it when mainstream media report on something so amazingly fictional that it makes me think the existence of fact-checkers in the mainstream media are as mythical as candy-coated rainbow unicorns who play for the Cubs and win the world series.

Click here to write in “COLBERT” for the name of the NASA Node 3 Space Station!

Then let the Zoners know your vote in the comments!

  • Yes, then it starts a new game called “Who Gave Me Herpes?”
  • It seems that it started with a joke article on a humor web site, which got caught by a college newspaper, then picked up by a local news station, which spread it to another news station that was cruising for stories without protection, then gave it to a third station that was going down in the ratings.
  • Highly contagious. That’s why smart paper boys use plastic bags.
  • Yes, bacteria on my ball. Words as true today as when Dan Rather used them to sign off in 1985.
  • By the way I still stand by my forecast six months ago of chocolate rain. It is coming!
  • Hell, ping pong gives you crabs.
  • I was pushing for the job to go to TV’s ‘House’, but apparently the administration reached its quota of rude, physically challenged egomaniacs when it hired Rahm Emmanuel.
  • What’s 36% Of Nothing?
  • This is Nationalization [Whew]
  • AKA “Doocys”
  • I want to squash any further rumors that Eleanor Holmes Norton and I have played Beer Pong together. No truth in this!
  • If I keep my gun, I can get as many roses as I want.
  • Which must mean the only people carrying weapons in Sotuh Carolina are middle-aged hermaphrodites. They are packing heat, in more ways than one.
  • Happy belated Valentine’s, Sweetness. What’s that? You want to thank me with a kiss? You know what? That’s a little PDA. *Later*
  • Those aren’t space modules, those are herbal teas.
  • I have one habit of conscious eating that I understand, I like to eat things that were once conscious.
  • Does that go for food, or do you just kick out the stops on this one?

I VOTED COLBERT TOO! I made note on my calendar to vote every day for the next month or until they name it.

This isn’t the Colbert Nation – this is the Colbert Universe! Rock the Vote!

I put a bit of a strain on my system running all six browsers I’ve got installed to vote. Oops.

Bonus points to the Nation for temporarily crashing ColbertNation.com. We are legion.

I’m not one of the heroes, but I voted Colbert. :)

  7. mrtigger001 says:

As soon as I saw they were naming a part of the space station and leaving it to popular vote, I thought, “Uh oh. I know where this is going.”

Top segment tonight was definitely Beer Pong Herpes. I was definitely rolling over at not only the jokes themselves but also the Fox & Friends segment. They never cease to entertain.

  8. TJ says:

    Yay for popular voting, but…
boo for pronouncing my governor’s name wrong. Repeatedly. (Seh-BEEE-lee-us) I could have sworn he’s made fun of her before…
Overall a great show though – another reason not to play beer pong with frat boys!

  9. Lucy says:

I voted for Stephen, then deleted my browser history and voted for him again three more times. Hooray for blindly doing whatever Stephen tells us! :)

  10. Jenny with a Y says:

This was a great episode! I got up early this morning to watch it online before work. Now, I’m starting my day in a cheery mood.

I loved everything about this episode but I voted for beer pong. It was hysterical and it cracks me up when Stephen talks about those friendly friends over at Fox and Friends.

Yay! A naming challenge for the Colbert Nation. I’ve already voted for Colbert several times. It pays to have two computers in the house with multiple browsers. I’ll keep voting until they close it.

  11. leeann says:

beer pong was great, but bullet was totally (epic pun, wait for it…)on point tonight. hilarious!

  12. Gaia Faye says:

Hee. COLBERT is at the top of the NASA “submit your own” list.

I prefer when Stephen directly orders the Nation to do things like this, as opposed to the reverse psychology approach he used with the dance mix. It’s more of a collective, send-out-the-troops thing, which is just more amusing.

My favorite part of the show, actually, was the running joke about EHN.

    • mrtigger001 says:

Haha, I really wonder what happened during the audience discussion that prompted the Eleanor Holmes Norton thing.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Michele says:

I was thinking the same thing! That was so funny! My favorite part of the show was the whole beer pong/herpes connection. That made me laugh so many times! “There’s bacteria on my ball!” LOL!

  13. becca says:

So Colbert is already beating Xenu
Now I guess we just have to focus on beating the Joss Whedon fans who are voting for “Serenity”

  14. Louise says:

I have just voted for “Colbert”. And this makes me fell great! And thank you, Lucy, for the idea about the browser history so to vote again and again.

    The episode was great!

  15. SazzrahUK says:

I have just voted and I haven’t even watched the episode yet!

Oh there is a quote from Stephen on http://www.celebritywit.com/ I would post it but its not exactly family friendly!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  16. John says:

The Colbert module for the universe! Yes, I voted Colbert. Take that, Xenu!

    And check this out:
“Any number of entries are allowed, up to one vote per user per day.”

    Stuff those voting boxes, Nation!

Anyway, the beer pong segment had to be the best. “Who’s been f***ing our ping pong balls?”

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  17. lvtcr says:

Sweetness, side remarks about EHN (makes you wonder about the Audience Q & A), a challenge, and beer pong exposed! I am so happy!

Thanks for making it so easy to keep voting!!!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  18. Lisa says:

I had to vote for the space station — there’s something about Stephen’s calls to action that are just so much fun. I loved the beer pong story and nearly died laughing after watching everyone over at Fox and Friends play it at 7:30 in the morning! And let’s not forget how great The Word is when Bullet “speaks” for itself (“Uh Oh” and “Whew”). Overall, a fantastic show!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  19. Mel says:

On that poll there, I voted numerous times. Deleting the browser history works wonders. Suprisingly, there are people that are voting for Vista. Not me though, not after the way my computer’s been acting.

On this poll here I voted for the beer pong story, just for the line “Who’s been f**king the ping pong balls?”. Classic.

  20. becca says:

I also have to give some love to the Word. The concept of “nationalizing the poor” felt like an homage to A Modest Proposal

  22. MaryLovesColbert says:

I voted Colbert! Woooohooo! Yeah, it’s at the top of the list right now!

Um…it’s not letting me vote multiple times. Is there a trick?

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Melanie says:

Well when i closed my browser and reopened it, i was able to vote again. i did that multiple times so i could vote Colbert as often as possible. so just try to close it and then reopen :) Hope that helps

        Okay, thanks!

If closing your browser & then reopening it doesn’t work, you may have to clear your cookies.

This morning, “COLBERT” wasn’t even in the list of top 10 write-in votes. Now, it’s #1! Way to go Nation. As Stephen said on the show, we can do this!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  23. Laaaura says:

So many people have voted. I love it! This morning the total number of votes was at 23,000 (It might have even seen it at 13,000) and now it’s at 129,000. Way to go Colbert Nation!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  24. Kyoko says:

WHOO!!! I voted Colbert too!!! I plan to do it every day until the 20th!

It is all fun and games until someone gets herpes!

  26. mrtigger001 says:

Among the provided choices NASA has, Serenity is apparently in the lead. Did it occur to anyone that the Nation might be up against Firefly fans?

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  27. wren says:

Wow, another fabulous show! This is shaping up to be an epic week. I also want to send some love the way of TDS, which has been just fantastic this week, too (also love Jon’s blue shirt & tie. His All Grey Wardrobe is nice, but the blue really highlights his eyes).

Off to vote Colbert again. I’m sure NASA won’t use the name, but we’re guaranteed to get some great comedy out of it. And I’m actually happy Serenity is in 2nd place, being a big Firefly fan. It’s all win :)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  28. lulubelle says:

I voted for the “Colbert Comet”. But I will fully comply and obediently vote “Colbert” in the future.
