Episode 5025 – R.A.P.S. (Awesome!)

By Jenny with a Y on February 24th, 2009 ·

R.A.P.S. (Awesome!) Good evening, Zoners! I’m so very happy the ‘Colbert Report’ is back with fresh shows. I missed our joy machine last week!

For me, the high points of this episode were the interviews with Father James Martin and Helen Fisher, and the return of the prayer hat and giant prayer hands. If I had realized that today was an official day of prayer for Stephen, I certainly would have been praying for him. Maybe my prayers could have stopped him from shooting that poor audience member. HAHAH!

Here are a few notable quotes:

  • I look at the Oscar winners which, evidently, are being outsourced to India.
  • Americans are flocking back to the flock and not just because Communion counts as a meal.
  • You make God sound like an opportunistic virus.
  • Bagel chips: Truly, they are the chosen snack.
  • I should be more infused than a vodka soaked watermelon.
  • Okay, I clearly did the wrong thing there. You people are not praying hard enough.
  • It turns out Jackman is not just his name, it’s an order.
  • Even I could never have predicted that Kate Winslet’s dad is Dick Cheney.
  • Is this a breeding experiment? ‘Cause if you’re doing the matching, it sounds like a cult.
  • I think I’m getting a little crush on me right now.

What did you think about this episode? As always, please feel free to share your thoughts with us in the comments. You may also wish to add a write-in vote for something not included in the poll.

I wonder if today’s show breaks the record for most props stashed under the desk?

I think Colbert quoting the Bible is pretty epic.

I love how the fish and the bread multiplied and made fish sticks. And yes, there were props galore! And I loved both of the interviews. Very interesting topics.

Damn…I forgot prayer day. A couple years ago it was the 22nd
Although I wasn’t agnostic a year ago this time.

I vote fishsticks. Love when Stephen freaks happily over retarded things.

Loved the “Insane in the membrane” call out – had to vote for the Fisher interview.

I like how Father James Martin is now the “official chaplain” of TCR. LOL. I think they need one. I didn’t pray for Stephen yesterday–I wonder if that’s a confession-worthy offense?

I loved the return of the prayer hat and prayer hands, and the bread and fish multiplying into fish sticks was also pretty silly.

Yeah TCR needs a chaplain.

I never prayed for stephen yesterday either. There should be a number we need to call to apologize for not praying for Stephen. Are you reading this Colbert Report writers? Give us a number. With a very creative message.

Father James Martin is always a hit, so I voted for him. Fr. Martin’s line about “I was at GE for a few years, and then I saw the light, so to speak” had me cracking up. And Stephen’s “You make God sound like an invading virus” line was particularly good as well.

Maybe I’m just partial to Fr. Martin because he went to my college, hehe.

I loved the GE joke as well;) How great that he went to your college! Has he ever come back to visit? Have you read his book?

I haven’t seen him around campus, although I would definitely want to strike up a conversation and pick apart his brain if he did.

Haven’t read his book.

Colbert and religion is never a bad thing. I love Fr. Martin and I love Stephen talking about the slightly creeptastic remote-prayer people. It always makes me think of Bartlet on The West Wing. “Remote prayer? I like it. There should be a button on my desk I can press and 49 people instantly pray for me.”

Seeing the Hugh Jackman lap dance as a Moment of Zen and again at Stephen’s Oscar segment was too much. I don’t know if it’s because it was with Barbara Walters or something else.

I love how he was arranging the fish and the loaf of bread so carefully on the plate and just intensely staring at them that I almost hoped they would multiply. Haha! :)

I loved the Charlene reference during the main interview.

I voted for the Fisher interview, though I do love Fr. Martin. My favorite part during the interview was when Helen Fisher designated Stephen as an explorer and, as she began listing off the traits, Stephen responded with “I’m starting to get a crush on me.”

For the record, I definitely see Stephen as an explorer. His curiosity is contagious!

I voted for Fr. Martin, but I am also partial because I work for his publisher. He is really that funny and wonderful. I hope he makes more appearances!
