For those of you who have been itching to get a clear version of “Gentle News” or “Skinheads From Maine” on DVD, your wait is getting much shorter. TVShowsOnDVD.com has released a copy of the new artwork for the ‘Dana Carvey Show’ as well as a little bit of new data about the release, scheduled for May 12th:

It will be a 2-disk set running approx. 180 minutes, and it will include an unaired episode. Shout! [the DVD distributor] also hopes to include other bonus material, such as Outtakes and Deleted Scenes, but stay tuned for their formal press release to get a finalized list of extras.

I’m SO on this! I think the next question is, will we ever get Exit 57 on DVD? If I’m ever able to get to a show taping, I’m pretty sure this would be the Audience Question I’d ask.

Why, yes! How’d you know? Hehe…

I’m excited about the outtakes….if they mean bloopers. Nothing’s more adorable than Stephen breaking character.

  3. I have all 8 shows thru iTunes, but I may have to get the DVD if it includes an extra scene of Carvey and Carell and their gut-busting con games.

I would vote for the Best of Exit 57 DVD, but they could save some disc space by leaving out some of the duds. Does anyone need the Craft Carnival, Charlie, or Blaze sketches on DVD? I know I don’t. Discussion welcome.

i really hope they do issue an exit 57 dvd. i have only seen grainy versions of the original show.
however, i am happy that i can buy the carvey dvd, because watching robert smigel as bob dole is like the funniest thing in the world to me:)

Speaking only for myself: I do! The Charlie sketch in the funeral home is one of my favourite Exit 57 sketches of all time. In fact, Charlie himself is one of my favourite Colbert characters, and I’m always sad when I let myself think of the fact that Stephen will likely never use him again.

But, then, I already have all the episodes in VHS quality. So I certainly wouldn’t snub an imcomplete ‘best of’ DVD! :)

The sketch I was referring to is the one in the jungle where soldiers Stephen and Paul keep taking about “Charlie”. Kinda painful.

I haven’t seen the one in the funeral home… is it on the webs?

Oh, THAT Char–holy crap, is that you, Lee?

This is a freaking small world.

Yeah, that Charlie I can do without. I thought you meant the character Charlie that Colbert plays–kind of a simple guy with an interesting kind of stutter I haven’t heard often. I’m sure the sketches are available on the ‘net somewhere, but I’m not sure where at the moment (it’s 2AM and I just got back from–you know where!). I have DVDs of Exit 57 which I watch over and over–mostly just a couple of skits, including the funeral home one.

    Yaaaaaaayyyy1111!

Hulu doesn’t accept proxy viewing, so I’m champing at the bit to see this. From the short excerpts I *have* seen, Colbert seems to have superhuman mimicry powers. It’s too bad they can’t somehow work more of that mimicry (ie. variety-wise) into the report.

    Come on release date! =D

Agree about the Exit 57 stuff; it would be worth cleaning them up and putting the shows (and the promos!) into a set.

You can do Hulu through proxies, but it requires nontrivial resources and nerd-fu.

If you Google hulu proxy, the first result has the instructions. It’s setting up your own SOCKS proxy in the US that’s the hard part.

        Thanks for the info, Till.
By ‘non-trivial resources’ you mean one or more of time/money/bandwidth/dedicated hard drive space? I think my question indicates the true depth of my negative amount of nerd-fu. :D
        really :(

But what the hell, it doesn’t hurt to just look the instructions over…

      The promos are so necessary!

If you think about it, this collection is really interesting news, actually.
Cuz apparently, the Colbert bump works retroactively too. O lucky man. I wonder if the luck rubs off if you just touch him?

(sorry, forgot to add this to previous post)
