As our title suggests for this post, we have two sad bits of news to report about the recent awards nominations of Stephen Colbert during this awards season.
First, Stephen Colbert was nominated for a WGA award in the category of Comedy/Variety (including Talk) series. That award was issued on Saturday night, and was won by Saturday Night Live.
Second, Stephen Colbert’s audio book “I Am America (And So Can You!)” was nominated in the 51st Grammy Awards in the category of Spoken Word. The Best Spoken Word Album (Includes Poetry, Audio Books . . .) was awarded to An Inconvenient Truth (Al Gore) Beau Bridges, Cynthia Nixon & Blair Underwood. GOOOOOORE!!!!

can’t wait to see how he skewers gore tomorrow night!

GOOORRREEEE!!! How many awards does that man need? At least we know that Stephen can make this funny. I always love it when “Stephen” pouts.
I wasn’t happy that SNL beat TCR last night. I was hoping that TDS would win if TCR didn’t.

Nothing can ever make up for the one he won but lost.

Really, SNL?!? Really?!?

I can only assume it’s belated Tina Fey love. If we’re talking about writing, TCR does a lot more per week (subtract musical guests from SNL), and it’s actually funny most of the time.

Guh, EPIC FAIL.

What an inconvenient truth!
Yeah, yeah. SNL won because of Sarah Palin and Al Gore won because they feel bad that he never got to be President;)

Oh man! Stephen got robbed! I’m so sick of “An Inconvenient Truth” its an inconvenient pain in the butt is what it is, and most of it is BS anyhow :sigh:
I dont like Gore, I hope Stephen goes for the throat :) :hugs Stephen:
(and yes I see the irony in the statment LOL)

How can Stephen be so clairvoyant?! He predicts who will beat him everytime–to hilarious results! The DaColbert Code obviously has more than comic legitimacy to it!!! [Perhaps he can predict when I will officially be done with grad school!]

That’s right, TCR writers are savvy to the pulse of the awards trends, though Stephen might remember from his Dungeons and Dragons spell books, clair voyance is seeing the future, clairaudience is hearing the future. Audiobook grammy category, indeed. Silly, seems like an oscar for best stage technician. It’s all about sales stats, and longevity, I guess.
Ricklllllessss!!! Maniloooooow!!!!!

It’ll be a fun show tomorrow, then. Stupid WGA and Grammy people.

SNL?!? They haven’t been funny in decades! The Palin thing landed in their lap – didn’t have to work at it at all. It’s a travesty!

I know, huh? They didn’t even have to write the stuff for Tina Fey. They just said what Sarah Palin said! (It was great, though). But Stephen and his writers should’ve won.

I just came home and read this. Unfortunately I didn’t get home from working at Kroger until 10:45.
Yeah it should be great!!!! I can’t believe he lost to Al Gore. I haven’t heard An Inconvient Truth, but I have no interest in it. The WGA and the Grammys? It’s sad, but atleast they have some material for the show tomorrow. I smell some major fist shaking :-)
WGA!!!!!!! Gore!!!!!!!

Jesus! He’s STILL being nominated for sh!t? Yes AIT was awesome and very needed, but…..AH!!
I agree with Jenny that Gore needs no more awards. He’s gotten plenty of everything…except the invocation he won.

The more he gets the more his girth grows… It’s becoming unhealthy. For his own good, the awards must stop.

SNL? Their openings are often good but the rest of the show is usually lame. TCR is consistently funny, brilliant and cutting edge, day after day, week after week. He wuz robbed!

Yup, after second show, he joined in for improv and targeted me for audience interaction…extensively. I collared one of the regular performers to get his name after they wrapped it up. Long story short, he stood me up, after telling me to come see him after the show. He was brilliant then and though I returned again from Detroit a few months later, he was no longer working there.

Aw. That doesn’t sound like Stephen. Maybe there was a misunderstanding. You hear so many nice stories about Stephen from fans today that it’s hard to imagine he would be any less than that back then.
What skit did he involve you in? Maybe DB prefers that we keep this thread for the Friday-Free-For-All, but I hope to hear about it eventually.

I had this bad feeling Al Gore was going to win. *shakes fist* GOOOOOORRREEEEE!!!! And to think I started watching the Grammy’s stupidly thinking they’d do that award on TV. Silly Lisa…
Shout Out (Hey!):

Noooooooo!
Though, I’ve gotta say that this is undoubtedly going to make for some great stuff on the show. Lolz. It sucks that Stephen lost but…losing to Al Gore may be the next best thing to winning in terms of having material!

i had had to puke a bit in my mouth when they called GOOOOOORE
Evertytime I hear his name I see a dimly lit theater with a boring powerpoint presentation playing in the background, Gore with a chainsaw running around cutting men in tuxedos to bits, women screaming, running around while they keep tripping over gala dresses.
And to prevent his from happening, they keep giving him all these awards.
Maybe I shouldn’t have played those games..to much gore.

Stephen called it!…Again!! Does he have insider information with the accountants that tally up these things? And if he does, can he tell us what stocks to buy next?
