Episode 5017 – R.A.P.S. (Awesome!)
By
I really enjoyed this episode of ‘The Colbert Report.’ Stephen tossing his hair back, the dinosaur impression, the interview with Dan Zaccagnino, and The Sound of Music themed farewell were some of my favorite moments. What were the high points of the show for you, Zoners? As always, please feel free to leave a comment or add a write-in vote for something not included in the poll.
Here are a few memorable quotes:
- I can’t tell you home much that ovation means to me… There are times when I feel like a dinosaur…
- If I’m not paying you, then that means I’m not discriminating. I’m just being a jerk.
- Anderson, everything is going to be okay. You just got a whiff of Lou Dobbs.
- They don’t call it ’similar to yogurt’ for nothing.
- And these days, them is all around us.
- Holy sh*t! Is he walking a cat?
- NPPA: A shadowy network that gathers in dark rooms and fears overexposure.
- I’m beginning to feel like we didn’t really nail this guy.
- I’m suddenly very angry with you. I forgot to be angry.
- That is just eye poppin’ fresh right there.
- I always have hundreds of people thinking about my show.

I am writing in the dinosaur impression – Love the callback to TDS (although I am sure it was triggered by an audience question). But the hair…oh, this episode was fangirl central.

The dinosaur impression was the result of an audience question. My son challenged him to incorporate a velociraptor reference into a joke. (You can see him pointing to an audience member after the impression) I think my son has watched that episode about 100 times.

Thanks for the information, Chris! What a great idea for a question. It was really cool that Stephen ran with it like he did.

yes! the wayyyy old TDS clip of same dinosaur! as soon as he started with the impressions it surfaced in my mind! that was just about my favorite part. also, “what dinosaur are you like?” is a pretty neat question, if that is what prompted the display.
hair apparently deserves a mention as well. this TV is awful but it looked fluffy, right? seemed rather active during the interview too, not always remaining in place.
I didn’t see a wriststrong at all. did anyone notice red peeking out of the sleeve at any time? I didn’t spend the entire show focused on the wrist, of course, but I didn’t see anything.
middle part was interesting, but a little bland. I’ve taken pictures in the subway but I’ve always felt a little wrong about it, like I could be breaking a law I don’t know about.

Yup, he was wearing the bracelet. :) His hair was wonderfully fluffy tonight! And he was positively giddy too. :)

Loved the opening dinosaur and the fluffy, adorable thing the hair was doing tonight.
I think the Nailed ‘Em was my favorite part, though. I had read about that incident awhile ago on Photography Is Not A Crime, and was happy to see coverage on it that showed the absurdness of the whole thing.

I voted for the “It Could Be Worse” segment, but I’ve got to switch it to the dinosaur segment for old times’ sake (i.e., TDS). Nothing like a T-Rex with fluffy hair.

I liked the fluffy hair, and thanks to this particular show that Destiny’s Child song won’t stop playing in my head. I kept wishing Colbert would sing more and received two treats :D

I noticed Stephen’s hair last night, too! I really like it when he lets it grow out a little longer than we usually see it on ‘The Report.’ Is it just me or did he come back from the Christmas break looking younger? I don’t know what it is exactly but I’ve noticed it these last few weeks. He looks younger and he seems to be very high energy.
So, I had the farewell song from “The Sound of Music” stuck in my head when I went to bed last night. Another Stephen related earworm! :-)

This Report had everything! Singing, Dancing, dinosaur impressions…and yes, his hair! I tend to think he looks younger without all the product in his hair. I can’t pick a favorite but I thought that maybe Meg the Intern might show up as soon as he began discussing discrimination!

I thought the exact same thing about Meg making an appearance! As soon as Stephen mentioned harassment my first thought was, “Here comes Meg!”.

Another shout out for the hair: shiny, longer, lower across the forehead and very flattering. The dancing at the table was my fave moment, then the dinosaur, loved the TDS reference and the audience reaction.

It was definitely a good show — I LOL’d during “Nailed ‘Em” when Stephen narrated “Shiny”. And doubting whether or not the subject actually got nailed was hilarious too.

I’m LOLing again here at work over Stephen narrating “Shiny”. Bwah! Too hard to decide between “Nailed ‘Em” and Dan Z. Dan was a good guest, but to see Stephen chair dancing was fab. Loved this show!

I voted for the Nailed ‘Em segment. It was just so funny! Although the dinosaur imitation ran a very close second, with the whole Lily Ledbetter/discrimination bit a very close third. Enjoyed the interview as well. This was one of those shows where it was really hard to pick a favorite segment.
Oh and I loved the softer, fluffier hair!
