This year’s Harris Poll for America’s Favorite Television Personality has lots of familiar names in it. On top of Stephen Colbert being listed as #9 on the list (down from #6 last year), Jon Stewart came in at #6, and Steve Carell came in at #8. Here’s the list in its entirety, courtesy of TV Squad (via MarketWatch):
- 1. Jay Leno
2. Hugh Laurie
3. Ellen DeGeneres
4. Oprah Winfrey
5. David Letterman
6. Jon Stewart
7. Charlie Sheen
8. Steve Carell
9. Stephen Colbert
10. Mark Harmon
And who got knocked off the Top 10 this year that was on last year? None other than “Papa Bear” – eat it, Bill O’Reilly!
It’s nice to see Jon and Steve (and Hugh Laurie)on the list!
Though, to be quite frank, and my apologies if you’re a fan, but I don’t think Jay Leno is that funny. Not funny enough to beat out all the other comedians on the list. *shrug*

That was my reaction too — Leno #1? Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. Sheen and Harmon are puzzlers as well — I don’t dislike them, but I don’t know anyone who loooooooves them, either.
There are NO journalists on this list. Back in the day, Cronkite would have been on top, wouldn’t he? He and Carson, anyway. I guess Jon and Stephen are picking up the slack.

Jay Leno is a mystery to me. He seems like a nice guy, but his humor is so painfully bland.

It’s nice to see what I shall call the Favorite TV Personality Trio (Jon, Steve, and Stephen) in the top 10. I can’t understand why Leno was added to the list too. Especially #1.

uh two major surprises: Jay Leno at #1 (he’s funny, but i didn’t think he was that popular) and Charlie Sheen beating colbert and carell.. what???
i’m happy hugh laurie’s on the list, since i’m completely obsessed with House (right next to tcr and tds), but it never really occurred to me that his popularity was that high. Thumbs up.
