Wow! This was another great episode of ‘The Colbert Report!’ Once again, I loved everything. I haven’t decided how I will vote in the poll. For me, it’s a toss up between the “Better Know a Beatle” segment with Sir Paul McCartney and the Denis Dutton interview. What did you think, Zoners? What were the high points of the show for you? I feel silly about being the first one to comment on my own post, but I just wanted to add that I really liked Stephen’s hair tonight. I know that’s a little superficial, but sometimes I can’t help but notice those things. Actually, I liked his tie a lot, too!
I love shows like we’ve seen this week, where you can tell that Stephen is having a great time. His energy and excitement (and smile) always puts me in such a happy mood!

Oh, I love it that Stephen has been sending citizens of the Colbert Nation to the Hannity hotline! I actually tried to listen to Hannity’s radio show the day after Stephen first announced the phone number. I was hoping he’d respond in some way. After five minutes of listening to Sean, I was ready to pull my hair out. I had to change the station…
It will be very funny if one of the people on the Fox News channel talks about Stephen’s O’Reilly segment or the Hannity hotline thing.
On another topic, I found it hysterical that Colbert got McCartney to do a Better Know a Beatles segment rather than a regular interview.

I liked it! I was so impressed by the middle interview. quite nice exchanges seemed to be there, plus the singing! I was laughing quite a bit at all of it. will probably watch it again. my vote went there.
also, I didn’t know it would be so risky to watch the show on an empty stomach! I eat very little meat at all but those chicken wings were looking awfully appealing. I also liked how one fell off the plate at the end.

HAHAH! I know, right? I saw the slobbering bleu cheese mess and though, Oh, Barry! It looked like hella fun to film. I can just see the pitch now, “And then I just shove wings into my face. For about a minute, maybe two. Hose me down afterwards, it will be fine.”

You and me both are not Beatles fans. However, I must admit that the interview with McCarthy was very good. I loved the singing of “Ebony and Ivory” and Paul knighting Stephen.
However, I loved the chicken wing segment before and what an obvious joke there.

To be honest, I wish Paul McCartney had come for an in-house interview and performed a song with Stephen with full musical accompaniment, but it was still a fabulous interview.
@ madinrose and DrMeowMix: Not a huge Beatles fan either, but I enjoy some of their songs and Paul McCartney would be my favorite. I guess I’m ambivalent about the Beatles, but I know Paul McCartney is a huge get for the show and I’m excited about that.

hmmmm, last night’s comment was a bit forced. I think I was sleepy?
I forgot to say last night how I found the intuition behind the supply and demand graph quite curious. not at all how it works in reality, those are not the right labels or lines, but I like the reasoning. made me think.
also, I don’t buy the path into the woods thing. I’m busy honing my thinking on the subject right now (taking a decent course in evo bio) and it seems like it wouldn’t really be selected for enjoying to go on a path into the woods. anyway I probably oughtn’t knock it before I’ve read the book, and I am an extremely slow reader, so perhaps I’ll get back to you next summer or so.

The joy on Stephen’s face when singing with Paul was wonderful. I grew up with the Beatles so I completely understand the thrill. And the wisecrack about the Dalai Lama was priceless.
OT: Anybody see the PBS show “Make ‘em Laugh” last night? They featured Stephen at the WHCD under the segment about satirists and parodists. They connected him with a centuries long tradition of US political satire and with past comedians like Will Rogers and his teasing of Hoover & FDR.

I watched most of it, and saw a couple of the early clips from the WHCD. Unfortunately, my husband was doing some futzing with the antenna to get it to come in at all (and very badly at that), so I missed what they said about his performance.

I saw the WHCD nicely featured at the top of the satire and parody segment, but I was hoping they would show something from TCR or actually interview Jon and Stephen. Oh well. Still glad they drew attention to two talented guys!

Loved how Stephen’s WHCD speech was practically the thesis statement for the episode.

Not a Beatles fan either (my parents, especially my dad, leaned toward classical music), but the few Beatles songs I’ve heard, I liked. Sir Paul’s really witty and I loved their banter. :)
