You saw him as the released detainee from the secret prison under Stephen’s desk, but who was that guy playing Omar Homer, anyway? The comic’s comic has the answer: it was stand-up comedian Kumail Nanjiani.
Kumail Nanjiani as Stephen Colbert’s secret prisoner
January 27, 2009Last night’s edition of The Colbert Report opened with stand-up comedian Kumail Nanjiani hiding under Stephen Colbert’s desk as Colbert’s secret Gitmo-style prisoner, Omar. Or is it Homer? That must have been weird, since he’d have to have been in there even before the audience arrived — unless they snuck him in during a distraction. Or maybe it was magic!
. . .
“Magic”? Is the comic’s comic trying to tell me that Stephen doesn’t have a secret prison under his desk? Talk about a bunch of doubting Thomases! We know he has a Starbucks or two under there, why not a secret prison?
You can watch Kumail’s segment here if you missed it last night, and here’s a YouTube clip (also via the comic’s comic) of some of his stand-up. Warning: the clip is NSFW.
Thought I recognized him.
