Who was “Omar/Homer” on last night’s ‘Colbert Report’?
ByYou saw him as the released detainee from the secret prison under Stephen’s desk, but who was that guy playing Omar Homer, anyway? The comic’s comic has the answer: it was stand-up comedian Kumail Nanjiani.
Kumail Nanjiani as Stephen Colbert’s secret prisoner
January 27, 2009Last night’s edition of The Colbert Report opened with stand-up comedian Kumail Nanjiani hiding under Stephen Colbert’s desk as Colbert’s secret Gitmo-style prisoner, Omar. Or is it Homer? That must have been weird, since he’d have to have been in there even before the audience arrived — unless they snuck him in during a distraction. Or maybe it was magic!
. . .
“Magic”? Is the comic’s comic trying to tell me that Stephen doesn’t have a secret prison under his desk? Talk about a bunch of doubting Thomases! We know he has a Starbucks or two under there, why not a secret prison?
You can watch Kumail’s segment here if you missed it last night, and here’s a YouTube clip (also via the comic’s comic) of some of his stand-up. Warning: the clip is NSFW.
