We interrupt this R.A.P.S. to bring you this Urgent Fangirl Bulletin:

ZOMG STEPHEN COLBERT TECHNO DANCE RAVE VIDEO!! WITH BLACK LIGHT PAINT! AND GLOW-IN-THE-DARK TONGUE!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled R.A.P.S. Here are some of the fabu quotes from the show:

  • There is nothing worse than showing emotions that you have not planned in advance.
  • He is the justice chief of the Court Supreme.
  • THE NEW PRESIDENT IS YO YO MA!
  • President Ma must be shaking in his boots.
  • Mitt Romney – gun to your head, yes or no?
  • Incidentally, if anyone is interested, I have an airplane hanger full of Miami Sound Machine. The rhythm is gonna get ya!
  • I don’t know what makes me angrier here, the copyright infringement or the fact that those beats were so jaw-droppin’ ear poppin’ fresh.
  • My lawyers sue by the s-s-s-syllable.
  • Why not just say, you are hot, let’s do it. Let’s get it on. I’ve got a mountain in my pants and that’s not a metaphor.
  • The Mad Max occasional poem metaphor ROCKED!
  • Hickory Dickory Dock, We elected a guy named Barack.

How anyone could not vote for the remix is beyond me. I wish I took drugs just so I could have experienced it.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  2. Ms Interpreted says:

Snark on the Oops of Office was my favorite bit, since Obama actually did retake the Oath earlier this evening … and that line about obeying the letter of the Constitution (especially “H-A-B-E-A-S C-O-R-P-U-S”) had me grinning and clapping.

But yeah, that Remix was pretty spectacular. :)

The show overall made me smile; President Ma was awesome, the Mitt Romney bit made me giggle (if only because Stephen didn’t bring out the Guy Smiley puppet this time), and we got a lot of “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” again. I really do enjoy that poem, and tying in the Cats reference at the beginning by talking more T.S. Eliot during the interview was fabulous. Delight, all ’round!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  3. Tiger says:

the remix was great. I was surprised when it wasn’t just old clips but new stuff with crazy glowing paint. I’m so used to fanvids that I forgot the actual show has access to Colbert for original shots! that was great.

I have to admit during most of the show I was still a bit distracted by John Oliver’s kissing extravaganza.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • DB says:

HAHAH! Your comment made me smile. Stephen Colbert made his own effin’ fanvid. Classic!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Tiger says:

        I’m glad! :D

right now I’m refreshing a twitter search of “Colbert” to see what people have to say about the show, and your tweet came up and I was like “woah those are my words!” haha.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Kinaesthesia says:

Bwah! It was only a matter of time before he did, I guess.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • GabbyD says:

i agree re john oliver. i think he is colbert’s TDS heir.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Spoon at a Spork Fight says:

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. We must not let that man escape back to Great Britain. Untitled John Oliver Project by Busboy Productions, yay!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • forsakinghalfloves says:

Haha! John Oliver spreading the love! I loved it! And Jon said that he thought Chris Matthews was a honeydew melon! Haha!

      I heart the remix! :)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Olivia says:

I got to go to Washington for the inauguration, and John Oliver had mentioned on his podcast that he was going to be there, and I must admit that even amidst all the historicness and patrioticness and hugging, I was totally keeping an eye out for him the entire time. I’m especially sorry not to have seen him now that I know he was kissing people at random.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Tiger says:

ooooh a Bugler! me too. huge fan of that thing!

I was just watching the festivities on TV, and I was honestly breaking from being totally thrilled to think “hmmm I wonder what John Oliver is doing right now…hmmm.” extremely lame, but at the same time, it’s kind of hard to resist!

I hope you had fun at the inauguration– lucky duck!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Lisa says:

Haha! Yes, I thought the beginning of the Remix video was a fanvid and thought, “Wow. That looks so professional.” Haha! To me, it felt like an homage to all the fans who either put fanvids together or takes on some sort of video challenge he puts forth.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  4. Kinaesthesia says:

I did love the Oath of Office bit – and I’m glad President Obama retook it, just to be sure.

But… oh MAN, the techno remix was hysterical. The rapping! The facepaint! The tongue paint! The awkward one-man rave!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Ann G. says:

Hahaha, “awkward one-man rave!” I love it. The glow-in-the-dark tongue was freaky, but how could you not love such a great video? Definitely worthy of an Urgent Fangirl Bulletin.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  5. AmandaIvy says:

I couldn’t not vote for the techno rave remix. My emotions went as thus:

    OMG YAY!
Aww… reminds me of the SWC credit dance that one time…
    OMG LOL WUT?!
This man is SO WONDERFULLY INSANE.
    BEST EVER.

(Yes my thoughts became primarily caps locked. Because of his one man rave. Lol.)

reCaptcha: Change to (WOO!!! – Still on Obama high. Excuse me.)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  6. looped linear says:

    LOL! at the voting breakdown.

The remix was amazing. That man can move. And I *loved* the face! the eyes painted on the palms! the other red eyes! and the greeeen tongue… :P

    That snot picture though…O.o

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  7. sambalchuck says:

great show throughout, votes don’t do justice to the other segments which were all hilarious.

Also I had heard the remix before on http://www.indabamusic.com/sessions/indaba/68873 – Colbert (CL Mix) by Chris Lewis. Stephen made the (AWESOME) video for it :D:D

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • looped linear says:

Ok, I didn’t understand that the music was done by a fan, and only the video was done at the report…I thought they’d done both parts.

I didn’t give enough praise to the music. It was great! Made me want to move with it, all the way through.
And blended the music and the words so seamlessly .
      Excellent work Chris! Really impressive.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  8. jennie says:

I’m still trying to decide on my favorite bit – the remix was great but, like MsI above, I really loved the “following the constitution to the letter” bit for sentimental reasons (I really miss the right of Habeas Corpus and hope it returns soon.)

I loved the interview, too. You can tell she is a great teacher by the way she so patiently gave very clear answers to Stephen’s questions (I’m sure she’s had practice.)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  9. Laaaura says:

The techno remix was so awesome! The face paint was just too much, ahahah! That was such a catchy beat too. I’m going to watch that video again now.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  10. wren says:

I, too was momentarily surprised by the new footage (duh!), but wow how much fun was that dance remix!?

However, I wish I could vote twice, because I thought the interview was great, and what could top “I have a mountain in my pants, and that is not a metaphor or a lie”!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  11. vigwig says:

So many great moments: flubbing the oath, remix, mountain metaphors (whew) but I also loved the directive to the nation to make another bunch of remixes w/ the homosexual chapter of his audio book. That’s gonna be fun. I love it when Stephen engages his audience to be creative.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Michele says:

Ha ha! I agree! It was really hard to pick a favorite segment from last night. It was one of those shows that had me laughing beginning to end. I settled on the remix video though because it was so wonderfully weird and funny.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Spoon at a Spork Fight says:

      >>I love it when Stephen engages his audience to be creative.

We are the mermaids singing each to each, but also to Stephen (so he doesn’t feel too Prufrock-y). Can you tell which segment I’m rewatching? I’d vote for all of them if I could (Habeus Corpus, please come back!), but had to go with Stephen’s fanvid. It was so cool to hear a song I’d heard from indabamusic on the show, with an Official Colbert Fanvid no less. We all know Stephen will always be his own biggest fan!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  12. forsakinghalfloves says:

I’m glad that Elizabeth Alexander was the guest this episode. I think it’s rare that an inaugural poet is interviewed. And as a lit major, I’m happy that Stephen is creating a space for the literary arts in his show. :)

“The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” was one of the first poems we discussed in my Introduction to Poetry class. I remember feeling confused and overwhelmed at first, but each new reading makes me appreciate it more.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  13. eirracoes says:

Awesome show all throughout! The English nerd in me rejoiced during the interview.
