Happy New Year, Zoners! How’s everyone feeling? Ready for a new Report or two? This break’s been much-needed but the weekday evenings just aren’t the same. Hope you all had a very merry Christmas and didn’t get sick (feeling like you’ve been run over sort of ruins the holiday cheer). . . Welcome to the first weekly NoFactZone post roundup of 2009!
New Episodes Return January 5!
Mainstream Media:
- Broadway ‘Star of the Year’ Daniel Radcliffe picks The Colbert Report as the best TV show of the year.
- Stephen Jr. was spotted in Oregon on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas, little (or not so little) guy!
- Oh no they don’t – Time Warner Cable looked to be very close to shutting down Comedy Central and 19 other Viacom channels on January 1st.
- On New Year’s Eve, Time Warner wasn’t any closer to backing down despite an onslaught of calls from angry subscribers. Good work, everyone!
- Time Warner Cable and Viacom shake hands on New Year’s Day and make nice. Whew!
- The Guardian (UK) names The Colbert Report (and The Daily Show) to its list of ’10 Best US TV Shows.’
- Stephen Colbert reads T.C. Boyle’s “The Lie” for NPR’s Symphony Space “Selected Shorts” program. Audio is available!
Klassic Kolbert Best of 2008:
- Klassic Kolbert: Episode 4010 (January 22, 2008). Stephen’s ‘strike episode’ featuring author Malcolm Gladwell and Ambassador Andrew Young, as well as a touching choir tribute to Stephen’s writers.
- Klassic Kolbert: Episode 4051 (April 17, 2008). The Colbert Report travels to Philadelphia and hosts Congressman Patrick Murphy and Senators Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and Barack Obama. Does it get any more star-spangled than that?
- Klassic Kolbert: Episode 4060 (May 5, 2008). RAAAIIINNN!! Stephen challenges the Korean pop star to a dance-off. His actual guest is Carl Hiaasen.
- Klassic Kolbert: Episode 4063 (May 8, 2008). Stephen interviews Arianna Huffington and speaks to Garrett Reisman, the astronaut who’s brought a WristStrong bracelet into space with him. OMG! Space!
- Klassic Kolbert: The Best of Indecision 2008. This interminable election season produced some of the most memorable Indecision segments ever, with my personal favorite being Jon Stewart calling the 2008 election for Barack Obama.
We Call It The Joy Machine:
- Wired.com readers think Stephen Colbert is sexy enough to make #6 on their list of Sexiest Geek of 2008. The fan video featuring Weird Al Yankovic’s ‘White and Nerdy’ has never been more appropriate.
Six Degrees of Stephen Colbert:
- There’s lots to do in 2009, involving Aasif Mandvi, Rob Riggle, Laura Krafft, Peter Grosz, John Oliver, John Hodgman, Kristen Schaal, and Amy Sedaris.
The Zeitgeist Is Feeling Fine in 2009:
- Zeitgeist for December 30, 2008: The Best of 2008 Edition
No Fact Zone Site News:
- Webmaster DB gives a glimpse into our blogging world with the guest series ‘The Art of the Fan-Based Blog,’ hosted by Lorelle on WordPress. It’s a very interesting read!
- We were getting ready to go live with a shiny new template on the first of the year, so please excuse any glitches in the site.
- Take a read through the No Fact Zone State of the Union Address and catch up on the year’s site business. And let us know if you’re interested in helping with episode guides.
Check out what’s new at Colbert University!
- Browse through the December 2008 additions to Colbert University, including ‘A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All’ news, Operation Humble Kanye, the JoyDown, and an update on former stage manager ‘Bobby.’ Plus more, as always. Go read!

Hey Tiger, *Waves* and welcome to the new CU faculty associate! Way to go with the new CU Science course – SCI 301: Stephen and Science: Confusion, Skepticism and Fear! (love the title) – it looks really great! Given that Stephen is such a geek, I’m sure there will be plenty of content to add in the future as well.
Shout Out (Hey!):
