Stephen Colbert in the Zeitgeist – Best of 2008 edition

The “Best Of 2008″ lists are hitting us hot and heavy this week. Here’s a collection of some of the appearances of Stephen Colbert and ‘The Colbert Report’ on the Best of 2008 lists around the blogosphere and mainstream media.

• Stephen Colbert’s “Canton, TX” joke is the #9 news story for the Canton Herald.
• Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart have made the OnMilwaukee.com’s Best of 2008 list as Best Comedians, although Drew Olsen does say “It almost seems unfair to label Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert as comedians, because the work that they do is far superior to most guys telling jokes in front of brick walls in smoky nightclubs. Maybe “social satirists” is a better label.
• Stephen Colbert’s send up of the Bill O’Reilly “We’ll do it live!” viral video was featured in the HuffPo’s Best of 2008 Viral Videos list. (h/t Eris)
• The USA Today names Stephen Colbert #11 on their Top 100 people of 2008.
• Stephen Colbert’s portrait in the National gallery of art (and the fire hazard it nearly created with the swell of guests) is mentioned in the DC Examiner as one of this year’s Celebrity Perks.
• The Mike Huckabee feud, ending on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, made the NJ.com’s “Some of the best episodes from TV shows that didn’t quite make Friday’s Top 10″ list. Way to almost honor Stephen!
• Stephen’s DNA being flown into space made the Top 10 Space stories of 2008 according to AOL News.
• Seeing how far they can stretch a very thin premise, TheTVAddict.com puts Stephen Colbert as #5 on their “Our Top 10 Favorite Personalities with “Eye Issues*” of 2008″ list. (*Eye issues include glasses, eyepatches and in Benjamin Linus’ case — Bug eyes!)
• ‘The Daily Show’/'The Colbert Report’ made #21 of the Best Shows of the Year according to the San Franciso Chronicle.
